Canaan Harvey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 1, 2016.
Harvey, Canaan Jacob "C.J." TROY Canaan Jacob "C.J." Harvey was born in the city of Troy, on February 15, to parents, Jerome and Margie Lee Harvey. CJ was called from labor to reward on Monday, December 28, 2015, after a life measured not in a long duration but in memorable donations of love. He was an excellent friend, coach, mentor to many, and his spontaneous wit and joking ability brought joy and comfort to countless hearts that was touched by him. CJ's current profession included working for Fed-Ex (ramp agent) full-time and advance senior services part-time. Andhe was also a faithful fan of the 49ers football team. The family moved to Colonie, where CJ was educated in the North Colonie (Elementary) and South Colonie (Junior/Senior) school systems; subsequently attending Norwich University and Hudson Valley Community College for his advanced educational pursuits. Football, basketball and track played a major role during this phase of CJ's life. C.J. was blessed and baptized into the Bethel Baptist Church family under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Allen A. Stanley where he has been a member all his life. He faithfully served in the junior deacon's ministry and the usher ministry; and on occasion participated in theatrical performances. He was also a member of Bethel's Sunday School. C.J.'s memory will be cherished by his parents, Jerome and M. Lee Harvey; his brothers, Jerome J.-II (Chantel) and Ronald J. (Whittney); his pledged fiancee, Janece Davenport; his nieces, Jazmyne Jules "J.J." and Olivia Joy "O.J."; his nephews, Toussaint Jackson "T.J." and Kalel Jackson "k.J."; his grandmother, Ruby Brown (Delaware); his uncles, Charles Harvey (Ohio), Elder Joseph Williams (Delaware) and Edwin Brown (New York); his aunties, Judy Witcher (Delaware), Annie Holt (Michigan), and Estella Williams-Knight (Delaware); his god children, Julianna and Isabella (Monticello); many cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. C.J. was predeceased by his grandmother Marguerite Harvey (Ohio); his brother, Jerome J.A. Harvey-I. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. from the Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Ave., Troy, N.Y. The Rev. Doctor Eric Shaw pastor. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the church preceeding the funeral service. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the C.J. Harvey Scholarship Fund at Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Ave., Troy, NY 12180. (Go Fund Me link forthcoming.)

To CJ's family - I was shocked when I saw the news in the paper. I remember CJ as a little kid at Blue Creek School in Latham. I was in his 3rd grade class. Even as a little kid I remember him being athletic and into sports! I was glad to read that he followed his passion and continued to pursue sports. I am very sorry about his passing and will keep all of you in my thoughts. Stay strong and celebrate his memories.
