CANDACE BURNS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 26 to Mar. 1, 2024.
CANDACE LEIGH (RASMUSSEN) BURNS Candace Leigh (Rasmussen) Burns, 72, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, after a long illness. Candace and her family were long time residents of Marceline. Candace was born to Curtis Eugene Rasmussen and Beverly Jean (Rogers) Rasmussen on September 23, 1951 in Huron, South Dakota. As a young child, her family moved to California, where she grew up in Buena Park. While attending Buena Park High School, Candace met Steven Douglas Burns and over several summers their love and bond grew stronger and on November 18, 1972, they were married. Their marriage bore two children, a son and a daughter. Her husband, Steven, served a combined 22 years in the US Marine Corps and the Navy, and during that time, the family lived in a number of places around the country. Following Steven's retirement from the military, the family ultimately settled in Marceline in 1992. In Marceline, Candace was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church and a well-known member of the community. After the unexpected passing of her husband in 2015, she relocated to Las Vegas to live with her son and mother. Candace or as she was better known, Candy or Mema, always filled the hearts of those around her with her laughter, kindness, and exuberance and the light she brought into this world. Though her passing will leave many hearts saddened, the memories she left will ensure those hearts continue to grow and love in the years to come. Candy was preceded in death by her husband, and her father. She is survived by her mother; her son and daughter: Steven Douglas Burns Jr. and Jennifer Leigh Burns; five grandchildren: Chelsey Leigh Clayton, Karley Miranda Batye, Neil Raymond Batye, Madeline Lavonne Burns, and Vanessa Leigh Burns; and three great-grandchildren: Ryan Dane Lemmond, Reece Michael Sackery, and Rayln Ann Guilford. She is also survived by two brothers: Curtis Rasmussen Jr. and Craig Rasmussen; and four nephews and one niece. On Friday, March 1, 2024, a graveside service will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.

Candace was one of the bravest people I have ever know. Dispute her physical limitations, she always managed to be kind and helpful to those around her. Her laughter was contagious. She laughed often and lite up a room wherever she was. I will miss that laugh and her wonderful smile.
