October 23, 1952 - June 20, 2017

Salem - Candice Darlene Marsden, lovingly known as Candy, passed away at age 64 on June 20th, 2017 from her battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents: Jim & Trudy Goin, and survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Juli & Frank Stephenson and Ashley & Erik Rogers, her step-daughter and granddaughter: Mykee Marsden & Nikita Chavez, her sister and brother-in-law: Marlene & Julian Burroughs, and her brother: Gary Goin. Candy adored being an aunt to many beloved nieces and nephews, and was a devoted pet mother to her treasured Maine Coons: Coco & Axl, and pug: Suki. She was a vibrant, charismatic person who dedicated her life to healthcare for over 30 years.

Candy was a candy striper for Salem General Hospital before graduating from North Salem HS in 1971. In 1976, she earned her associate's degree in nursing from Chemeketa CC while working as an LPN. For most of her career, Candy was a RN and department manager for the Valley Community Hospital ER in Dallas, OR while also covering weekends/holidays for the Salem Hospital ER. Additionally, she served with Northwest Medical Teams and joined the bomb squad for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Many people knew Candy as the most amazing trauma nurse they'd ever met! In her spare time, Candy loved scuba diving and traveling to exotic places with her best friend of many years, Nancy Neilson. Some of their trips included Belize, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, Tortola, Greece, and Turkey. Later in life Candy would often recount her diving adventures in Fiji, it being her most favorite place of all, and the place she requested her daughters go to spread her ashes.

A celebration of life will be held at 12pm on October 21st at 4326 Lemon St. NE, Salem, OR 97305. All who knew and loved Candy are welcome to attend the pot luck style function. Any questions or memories to share can be directed to memorial4candy@gmail.com.
