Carey White Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2014.
Carey Paul White, 65, of Glendale, AZ, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 8, 2014. Carey was born in Atlanta, GA on January 17, 1949 to Bernice Edra Denison White and Paul Thomas White of Smyrna, GA.
Carey was a faithful man of God and loved his family very much. He was a Pastor for over 30 years and loved being in the ministry that God called him to do. Carey had been the Senior Pastor for Ambassador Heights Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ for almost 8 years. His compassion for others was evident in his life. He was always there to help others and also served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT in Munds Park, AZ while he Pastored the Munds Park Community Church. He truly had a servant's heart. Carey also worked nine years for United Blood Services as a Phlebotomist at a blood donation center in Glendale, AZ while Pastoring in more recent years. Carey graduated from Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA and then enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1967. He counted it a privilege to serve his country and was given an honorable discharge in 1971. After the Marine Corp, Carey graduated from Florida Bible College in 1977 with a BA in Biblical Education and Minor in Theology and shortly after was ordained. It is there where he met the love of his life, Gail Hughes. They both shared a love for music and met in the college singing group "Promise". Carey and Gail were married on July 23, 1977 in Trenton, NJ.
Carey is preceded in death by his Grandparents Lester Denison, Ruby Surrency Denison, Horace White, Frances Bridges White and Brother-in-Law, Thomas B. Hughes.
He is survived by the wife he loved for 37 years, Gail Doris Hughes White; Daughter, Kellie Gail White McGarry (Charles) from Phoenix, AZ; Son, Matthew Carey White from Houston, Texas and Son, Timothy Paul White from Glendale, AZ; Grandchildren, John Patrick McGarry and Briana Joy McGarry both from Phoenix, AZ; Mother, Bernice Denison White; Father, Paul Thomas White of Smyrna, GA; Brother, Ken White (Jane) of GA; Brother, Craig White (Susan) of SC; Sister, Paula White Pettett (Robert) of GA; Mother In-Law, Carrie Mason Hughes; Father-In-Law, Chester W. Hughes, Sr., Sister-In-Law, Jill Hughes; Brothers-In-Law, Chester W. Hughes, Jr.; W. Mason Hughes (Kelli); Mark Hughes (Beth); James Hughes (Jennifer) all of AZ and several nieces and nephews in AZ, GA and SC.
Carey will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and we all will remember his fun sense of humor. Our love for him will continue and he will forever be close to our hearts.
A Celebration of Carey's life will be held at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027, August 16, 2014 with a Viewing at 2PM; Service at 3PM and Military Honors at the Graveside Service immediately following. Lt. David White, Nephew, will participate. Pallbearers are: Ken White, Craig White, Matthew White, Timothy White, Charles McGarry and Brian Thompson. His Brother-in-Law, Rev. W. Mason Hughes will officiate.

My Dearest Carey, It's been three years today since you were gone and I miss you so much! A couple of weeks ago, would have been our 40th Wedding Anniversary. It was sad without you but I did our traditions and reminisced on our happy times and our love. I went out to dinner with Jill and my Dad which was nice. It's hard to believe it's been three years without you and it doesn't get easier. I love you up to the sun, moon and stars! Love, Gail xoxo

Today it is two years since you've been gone. I sit here thinking about that night that was such a shock, with tears. I miss you so much and still kiss your pillow every night and say "Goodnight, I love you up to the sun, moon and stars" before going to sleep, like you always said to me. I love you! Love, Gail xo

Carey was a true servant, a patriot and a solder of the cross. His life was an offering on God's altar. He ran the only race worth running and ran it hard to the finish, believing all the way! I imagine that all the saints were cheering as Carey received God's applause when crossing that finish line! "Well done my good and faithful servant!" Carey was the best brother-in-law I could have ever asked for because he treated my sister like a queen. Always faithful, loving and kind. He was a big part of our family and would do anything for anyone of us as if we were blood. I will miss his smile, his laugh, his corny but clean jokes and yes, even his goofy singing, like his "Buffalo song". God must of had an urgent mission for you brother, since he called you home so suddenly. My deepest condolences to my sweet "favorite" sister, Gail, her children (Kellie, Matt and Tim), Carey's parents (Paul and Bernice White), his siblings (Ken, Craig and Paula) and all those whose heart may ache because Carey has touched your life in some way. Take comfort in knowing we will all be together again, until then: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

Dad, No words can express how much you mean to me. You were always there for us, you loved us unconditionally, and you were so much fun. I know many people looked up to you as a great example of God's love. I miss you so much but I will always feel your presence. I love you so much. xoxoxo Love, Kellie

Robert & Mabel Sawyer who are members of Ambassador Heights Church enjoyed Pastor White's messages, his wonderful musical talent and concern for all. Since Nov 2013 I have been unable to attend church due to now my husband has Alzheimer. I am his caregiver 24/7 which has been very hard and tiring at times. I will miss the Pastor's calls and many e-mails that has helped me giving me the strength needed to fulfill the needs of the day. Prayer is so vital in our life. We had many telephone calls and prayer. I will truly miss this.
Bob and I will see you when our Lord calls us home. Many thanks for all you have done.

My prayers are with the family at this time.

Gail and Family I was very honored to have met Pastor Carey at Ambassador Height Church. He called and visited me several times in the hospital and most recently called me and prayed for my Daughter Elizabeth who was having stress before her Law Exam and for my sister in law who had surgery. To Gail, Kellie, Matthew, Timothy and the entire White family. Carey became part of our family at XL Health Club in August 2012. We were all very blessed to be a part of Carey's life every time that he walked through the doors of XL. Carey's smile and sparkling eyes made our day become a better day as he shared his warmth and happiness. We will all dearly miss Carey and want to thank the White family for sharing Carey with us. Dad, you always fought to come through for your family, and for that, you have always been my hero. You waded through the flooded house in Times Beach. During the lean times in the ministry, we always had food on the table. You bussed tables, pumped gas, and manned the garbage truck on the side, all with a smile on your face and a humble attitude in your heart. You would gladly do whatever you needed to do to support us. I will always remember begging Mom to let me stay up to listen to your midnight to 6 am radio show on KFLR now and then, and how cool it was to hear you on the radio counseling callers in need.

In every aspect of your life, you ministered and reached out to everyone you met. Your living ministry has blessed an uncountable number of souls. But, there are only three of us that knew you as “Dad.” We know all of your quirky habits and how much of a funny goofball you could be. With your unique sense of humor, you were always a fighter and were always there for us. For that, I will always be proud to be your son. I will always be Matthew CAREY White.

Pastor Carey married Alwyn and I seven years ago on August 11, 2007. He was a major part of our married life and we will miss him.

Pastor Carey meant so much to not just me but my family. He had been our Pastor for going on two years but felt longer because of the immediate welcome we as a family received by him, his wife Gail, and the church. He and Gail welcomed us to their home and my husband took pastor Carey out a few times to receive biblical counsel and spend time with a true man of God like Pastor Carey. I would call him and Gail giving them updates on our family progress and thanked them for praying for us as well as counsel us selflessly. Pastor Carey also took the time before service to give all three of my daughters Bible study at 9am. We enjoyed his special numbers in singing songs of worship. We could tell he liked singing. We are going to miss his fundamental southern Baptist style of preaching straight from God's word. He led us to grow stronger in our relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We, as a family, could see he had a passion to do the great commission of spreading the gospel to everyone he encountered. He even took the time to call church visitors the week of his passing to get to know them and make them feel welcomed at our church (Ambassador Heights Baptist Church). I know he is in a better place in heaven but we sure do miss him and wish we'd have more time with him. A true man of character who displayed putting others before himself was Pastor Carey and we love him for that and miss him greatly!

Gail, Carey was seven years younger than me. When you are little, you just can't allow those 'little kids' be a part of your gang. Then as we got older, we did not live near one another. When you are grown up seven years is nothing. By then I had married and moved to Washington State. Then all of a sudden, I learned that Carey was a pastor in Arizona. While we were never close as friends, we definitely are one Family; that is The LORD's Family. I only wish I could just jump up and come down and be with you at this time. May you and the whole family be comforted by our LORD's love. One day we will all be together. Please stay in touch on F/b. Love Wanda Gorman Holloway
