David Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2020.

David Bruce Rogers passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020. He was born on November 15, 1934 in Mullins, SC. David called Mullins his home for his entire life of almost 86 years. He graduated from Mullins High School in 1951. He attended the University of South Carolina and enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1957 through April 1959. Upon honorable discharge he returned home to Mullins. On June 17, 1962 he married his bride Fowler Rogan Rogers and remained married to her until her passing on January 29, 2018.

David was a lifelong member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Mullins. He was a past president of the Jaycees, the Mullins Lions Club and past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge. David lived a perfectly balanced life of God, family, country, and community. He enjoyed long life passions in sports, particularly baseball and golf, and was quite an accomplished athlete and coach in his younger years. All who knew him knew his competitive spirit. He remained an ardent supporter of his beloved Gamecocks to the very end.

David understood and remained committed to the idea that changing the world first starts in the home. He was a devoted husband and father to his only child David Gregory Rogers. In his last couple of years, he and Greg were blessed to be close to one another and shared some very special moments together as a father and son.

He is survived by his sister, Ann Williams of Fredericksburg, VA and his son and granddaughter Greg (Teresa) and Meredith Rogers of Atlanta GA. The loss the family feels is immense, but is equally balanced by the joy of knowing his spirit is in the hands of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and he is rejoined with his beloved wife Fowler.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2020 at Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.  We respectfully request that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the cemetery.  A kind word in lieu of a hug or handshake is very much appreciated during these uncertain times.

If you would like to remember David, the family suggests that memorials be made in his memory to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.

An online guestbook is available at www.mearesfh.com.

David is in the care of Meares Funeral Home of Mullins.

David & Ken Rogers were team mates on the 1952 State Championship Baseball team. David played second base and I played right field as a tenth grader. David was a very good baseball player on a very good team. I later played football at Clemson. However, playing ball with the guys we grew up with was the best of times - David's father was a deputy- sheriff and his younger sister Ann was very pretty - Too young for me, a constant night rider - Best wishes to the family - Ken Rogers
