Carl Dolnick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2022.
Carl Dolnick died on August 28, 2022 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Fay, his brother Earl and sister-in-law, Judith. Carl and Fay's son, Alexander Charles Dolnick, died in 2021.

Carl was born in Chicago in 1938 and lived all his life in the city. He was educated at the University of Chicago, receiving his BA, MS, and PhD in physics there. Carl devoted much of his professional life to physics, first at Fermilab and then at Argonne National Laboratory. Subsequently, Carl's deep and original understanding of computers served him well as an IT consultant for several financial institutions. His intellectual excitement about science led him to participate in educational seminars beyond retirement.

Carl was a passionate and inventive artist. He painted in both representational and abstract styles. Carl's extraordinary version of Brueghel's "The Flemish Proverbs" delighted his family and friends, who searched for their small portraits in Carl's painting.

Carl was beloved by his many friends across the world. He shared his incredible breadth of knowledge and his love of learning with everyone. Carl was a quietly supportive and deeply kind person whose strength helped many through times of crisis. His profound love for his wife and son was remarkable. All who knew him will miss his spirited approach to life.

Information about a memorial service will be announced later.
