Rip uncle carl you will be missed

A favorite memory? There have been too many favorite memories. I knew Carl when he first got KB8BSG, when he lived in Detroit, doing odd jobs for folks when he just got out of the Army. Carl had a warm, friendly smile. You wanted to be near him. His country boy (hayseed) nature made him a pleasure to have around. Cathy Russell-N8JCI called him her favorite handyman. Carl did many chores for Cathy, and Cathy offered him the guest room in her home while he was job-hunting. Carl became, (in my circle of friends), Cathy-N8JCI, George-WB8SWF/SK, Russ -N8MYO, his wife, Cheryl-KB8LWK, Greg-N8LDW/SK, Jim-KE8WC and Steve-N8JVN, Jay-N8WJL & me, Chris-N8FZT, our very, good friend. We'd eat together, kibbits on the radio together, meet up at local swaps and not so local swaps and help each other out looking for stuff. We'd share rides, do just about anything with him. He became our friend when he moved to Michigan, and he realized (like most of us hams), that the antenna is an important part of your station. Carl helped everybody with their antennas. It was a learning process for both Carl and the person he was helping. I will miss him.

I met Carl out on the trails of Lake St. Clair Metro Park. We both loved being out in nature. He would pass along information about the birds and critters that we loved to photograph. He showed me where the owl liked to roost across the trail. Carl had one of his beautiful photos hanging in the park office. I think the last time I saw Carl was at Wolcott Farm Center, enjoying visiting the cows with his granddaughter. I was so sorry to hear of his passing...

Carl was actually a resident of Clinton Twp. The hospital where he passed is in Warren.
