Carl Anton Gundersen, Jr. St. Petersburg - Carl Anton Gundersen, Jr. died peacefully on April 17, 2023, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was 96 years old.

Carl was a gentle soul known for his easy-going nature, modest lifestyle, integrity, sense of humor, and passion for learning. He loved sailing and was most competitive when playing games.

He graduated from Wheaton College (IL), earned master's degrees from the University of Illinois and the University of Michigan, and a divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.

He was an ordained minister with the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. and a certified social worker and marriage counselor. He was the organizing pastor at St. Timothy Presbyterian Church in Livonia, Michigan, and was an advocate for racial harmony in the Detroit region. He said he "preached with a bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other", by which he thought religion could help people navigate life's current-day challenges.

He became a caseworker, therapist, and family counselor in private practice and as Director of the Family Counseling and Mediation Division of the Third Judicial Circuit Courts for Wayne County, Michigan. He was married to Alice Marshall Gundersen for 49 years until her death in 2008.

Carl A. Gundersen, Jr. is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Jones Gundersen, his sister, Valerie Heidlauf, son Daniel C. Gundersen, daughter-in-law Tamera Stockton Gundersen, and one grandchild, Jenna Rebecca Gundersen, and youngest son Scott M. Gundersen.

A memorial service will be held in late May 2023, for friends and family at the Westminster Shores Chapel in St. Petersburg, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Communities Foundation (Orlando, FL), or the Epaphroditus Foundation (Elgin, IL).
