Carl Reagan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2016.
Carl William Reagan, age 88, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016. He was born September 16, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Herfie Garfield and Orpha (Cutlip) Reagan.

Carl lived most of his life in the Palmyra area and Boca Raton, Florida. He was a hardworking man who also found time to enjoy life. Carl began working on area farms as a young boy. That led to his interest in gardening and his "green thumb." He also enjoyed cooking, and was well known for his "everything in the 'fridge" soup. He even cooked sometimes at his bar and restaurant, The Ole Place in Boca Raton.

Carl's main career was truck driving. He was the owner and operator of many trucking companies, including Southeast Trucking, Charter Express Inc., and National Trucking Inc. Carl was also a consultant for Conway Freight and Progressive Insurance Company.

Throughout his entire career, Carl was an active member of International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 348. He served as a trustee for the Teamsters and was instrumental in forming an interstate agreement. Carl was a past president and Hall of Fame member of the Ohio Trucking Association, as well as a member of the ATA.

He was also active in his community. Carl served as a member of the Southeast School Board, Palmy Chapter #114 of Order of Eastern Star, Charity Lodge #530 of F&AM, and the Ravenna Elks Lodge #1076. Carl proudly served in the National Guard and the US Army. He later joined the American Legion in Akron.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine (Hunt) Reagan and his children: Joanne (Hugh) Holley, Karen (Sean Campbell) Jones, Frank (Rose) Jones, Sharon (Frankie) Rinehimier, and Tracy (Steve) Dubinsky. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren: Angie (Steve) Grachanin, Dana Reagan, Katherine Campbell, Candace Campbell, Michelle Jones, Michael (Evelyn) Hodgdon, David Reagan, and Duke Reagan, as well as his great-grandchildren: Vince, Joanna, Lillian, Kaylina, Layla, Derek, Danielle, Zach, Hannah, and Rachel. Carl is also survived by his younger siblings: George (Osta) Reagan, Herman Reagan, Donald (Ellen) Reagan, Virgil (Carolyn) Reagan, Inis (James) White, along with many loving generations of nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his son Ronnie Reagan.

Friends will be received THURSDAY, October 20, 2016, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, with a Masonic Service following at 6:00 PM.

Oh Lorraine, I'm so sorry to hear this news. I believe Carl was President of the Ohio Trucking Association when I first started my 38-year career there in 1975 and I have nothing but fond memories of his zest for life. Some years later I got to know you as well; the perfect foil for Carl! He was a great guy, a great leader, and a wonderful friend. I'll never forget him (or you).
