I remember Carty studying for a test Sat. am for a test before a game. I marveled one time that at 217lbs. he could take on 260lbs. linemen he smiled and said "it's not how big you are, it's how hard you hit." RIP Carl you were a great player and a great friend to all who knew you.

I wish I had known you were here, working in DC for years. I lived 2 miles from your office and 30 minutes from your home in MD. I am glad you had a happy successful life. I will never forget you.

I just want to add to my original post. I grew up 3 doors from Carl. No matter how successful he became, whenever he came home & I or my parents would see him, he was still the same humble & polite person we always knew
& remembered.

Carl was a very intelligent person and a hard working athlete. I respected him for his achievements and dedication. But most of all, I liked him as a friend. Frankly, I was shocked and very upset when Carl died. I miss him!

I met Cardy in first grade at St Mary’s. We became great friends and although we went to rival high schools, our friendship grew stronger. Feel blessed to have been his teammate at Penn State.
Carl was a great athlete but an even better person.
I miss him dearly.
Love and prayers to the Schaukowitch.

First met him when he was an assistant at Villanova, signed him to play for the Philadelphia Bell in the WFL. Very classy guy, very intelligent - and a very good football player. God took him way too soon.

To Sonny,
I was so saddened to hear of Cardy's untimely passing, and I know the hammer blow it is to lose a brother, as we lost Frank to cancer last September. I know Frank was an important person to you and, in fact, I referenced that in my eulogy of him. But Cardy was also one to inspire others, as he led by example. Always friendly, properly humble, witty and smart; he probably never made an enemy. So glad to know he had such a fruitful career after breaking his leg on Monday Night Football; so sad to know that he's gone already. He was such a great guy and a great teammate; did the Rox proud.

Carl always inspired me. Tough as nails undersized for his position but such a great athlete and competitor he excelled. I never saw the play where his leg was broken which ended his football career with the Broncos but I bet he completed his assignment.
His qualities made him very successful in life. he could have excelled at anything. Carl you are missed.

I was very sad to hear of Shock passing. I last saw him at the 1973 PSU team reunion. We knew each other in McKees Rocks and then attended Penn State at the same time, both studying Mechanical Engineering. He was truly a gentlemen and always gracious. He will be missed by many.
