Services for Carl Whitmire, 94, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in the Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Vic Bass officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery. Mr. Whitmire was born December 5, 1916 in Fostoria, Texas. He passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 in a local hospital. Mr. Whitmire was retired from Houston ISD from the maintenance department. He loved people and never seemed to meet a stranger. He enjoyed reminiscing about old times. Survivors include his nieces and nephews, W. J. Whitmire, Jr. and Linda Ritter of Houston, Lucy J. Whitmire of Cleveland, Robert H. Whitmire of Livingston, Barbara Ann Ford of Cleveland, Jerry L. and Yvette Whitmire of Kingwood, Larry G. and Tiffany Whitmire of Cleveland and a number of other nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Velma Hanes of Pollok, Ada Irene Reynolds of Mesquite, and Bessie Mae Cheek of Tennessee; stepsons, Walter L. Matthews and James B. Matthews Jr., both of Lufkin; stepdaughter-in-law, Kathy Matthews; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Whitmire was preceded in death by his wife, Evia Whitmire; brothers, Winfree Whitmire, Sr. and George Whitmire; and sister, Ida Couch. Pallbearers will be W. J. Whitmire, Robert Whitmire, Jerry Whitmire, and Larry Whitmire. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Kathy Matthews for the love and care given to Mr. Whitmire. Huerta, 42, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Bro. Dave Sarver officiating. Mrs. Huerta was born May 20, 1969 in Abilene, Texas; and she died Friday, June 3, 2011 in a Lufkin hospital. Mrs. Huerta had lived in Lufkin for the past 24 years, and worked as a dental assistant at Always Affordable Dental. She liked to dance and to ride motorcycles. She loved being with her friends and being with her grandchildren. Mrs. Huerta was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Jesse Robert Huerta of Lufkin; son, Jesse Huerta of Lake Jackson; daughter and husband, Jessica Huerta and Joseph Serrano of Diboll; granddaughters, Ysabella Huerta and Gabriella Huerta, both of Houston, and Aaliyah Serrano of Diboll; stepchildren, JoAnna Huerta, Michael Huerta, both of Abilene, and Mallorie Huerta of Houston; mother, Antonia (Garcia) and husband Leopoldo Chavaria; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Yanez, Angie Yanez, Gracie and Gregorio Garcia, all of Mineral Wells, Barbara and Severo Aranda of Bridgeport, and Vickie Yanez of Fort Worth; brother and sister-in-law, John and Lety Yanez of Mineral Wells; mother-in-law, Mary Montoya of Austin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ermalinda and Mario Sanchez of Lufkin, Danny Ray and Lupe Huerta of Pollok, Rudy and Esperanza Huerta of Lufkin, Richard Huerta of Dallas, Amanda Huerta of Austin, Jimmy and Gloria Gaitan, Albert and Rachel Gaitan, all of Abilene; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Oralia G. Torres. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Huerta, Shawn Farrell, John Yanez, Mario Sanchez, Danny Ray Huerta, Joseph Serrano, Rudy Huerta and Richard Huerta.
