Carl Whitten Obituary

Mr. Carl Thomas Whitten Sr., 77, of Florence, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at ECM Hospital.

He was a native of Wayne County, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in Lauderdale County. He was a member of Florence Masonic Lodge No. 14 and was a 32nd degree mason and a member of American Legion Post 11. Carl was a USAF and Army veteran. He was retired from the Alabama Army National Guard. Carl formerly owned and managed several service stations in the Florence area and was a volunteer at ECM Hospital.

Visitation will be today, June 6, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Henry Melton.

Mr. Whitten was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Juanita Castleberry Whitten, and wife, Margaret Whitten.

He is survived by two sons, Tommy Whitten, of Madison, Ala., and Kim Whitten, of Davidson, N.C.; daughter, Rosemary Whitten, of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren, Thomas Whitten III, Saxon Whitten, Stuart, Drew and Forrest Sockwell; great-grandchild, Colton Sockwell; two sisters, Charlene Spivey, of Treasure Island, Fla., and Faye McAllister and husband, Wayne, of Florence; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Whitten, Stuart Sockwell, Drew Sockwell, Randy Whitten, Dewey Williams and Phillip Staggs.

Greenview Funeral Home, of Florence, is directing.
