Death brings pain that time can only heal, no words could ease what we truly feel; but with God, Rev Carl's joy is eternally sealed, and cherish his memories that death can't even steal.

Lift up a smile sister Melodie for he is already in paradise.

My deepest condolences,

Ayo Onasanya

I remember Carl Wilson Jr. vividly. He always stood out to me. Always different and yet he exemplified the best in all of us. My first real encounter with Carl still stands out in my mind and because of it I admire him to this day.
I remember I was a freshman at Wayne State University in Detroit. As a freshman I was still very much trying to figure out what I wanted to do and be in life. I was riding the bus on the way home after a long day of studying and looking out the window I remember being struck by the sight of a young man riding his bike away from campus with a bookbag strapped to his back. It was Carl! I had heard he was going to law school. Yes, law school. For a black man in the eighties that was still a tall dream and Carl was a man who wasn't afraid to go after his dreams. Seeing him that day both inspired and humbled me. It put the biggest smile on my face because as another black man I could relate to Carl. I was on the bus because I couldn't afford a car, but I had big dreams and Carl was on his bike because he couldn't afford a car either, but he was fulfilling his dream and going through law school!
He was always smart. I remember he would later work as an Attorney for Wayne County. He advocated on behalf of adjudicated youth and I can only assume that if it were not for men like Carl many youth would have been lost in the system. Carl worked to ensure social justice was experienced by those who were marginalized in our society.
But another of my fondest memories of Carl was as a Man who loved God! Oh my, to see Carl praise the Lord was to see a man who wasn't ashamed to praise God for his goodness. Carl would shake with the joy of the Spirit and when that wasn't enough he would take off running around the church! I loved his courage and his unabashedness to tell everyone of the goodness of the Lord!
Carl's name means man or manly. That typifies Carl, but I would add that he wasn't just any man, but a good-man; a smart-man; a loving-man; a humble-man; a faith-man; and a powerful-man! Carl was my friend and brother. A champion in the army of the Lord and I will miss his spirit; his wit; and his courage. He fought a good fight and I praise God we will see him again.

Your brother in Christ,
Van Adams
