Carlo Ugolini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2025.
Carlo A. Ugolini, lovingly known as "Ugi," passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Born on February 7, 1951, in Toronto, Canada, to Carlo Ugolini and Willis Helen "Billie" Burlie. Carlo's life was marked by his passion for family, faith, hockey and a heart devoted to serving others.

Carlo's love for hockey began in his hometown of Toronto and carried him through four years at Cornell University, where he graduated in 1973. He went on to play professionally for the Syracuse Blazers and Muskegon Mohawks before spending two years in Italy playing in an Italian league. Upon returning to the United States, he continued his hockey career with the Muskegon Mohawks and the Grand Rapids Grizzlies. Even in his later years, he enjoyed the sport, playing on a Church hockey team in Grapevine.

Beyond hockey, Carlo pursued diverse interests and careers. He loved hunting, golf, football...really all sports! He owned a sporting goods store, worked at a couple of Wichita radio stations, and ultimately found his true calling in the oil business. After working several years in the oil industry, he founded Eternity Exploration: "Our Quest for His Eternal Resources," a Christ-centered oil company that reflected his deep faith. Carlo's walk with the Lord began in November 1982, and he dedicated his life to sharing the saving grace of Jesus Christ with everyone he met. His servant's heart was evident through his church involvement and his work with Hope of Life International in Guatemala.

Carlo was preceded in death by his parents, Carlo and Billie Ugolini, and his sister Teri Ann Ugolini. He is survived by his beloved wife Debbie Ugolini; children Merissa (Evan) Medbury of Wichita, KS; Cris (Crystal) Ugolini of Holly Springs, NC; T.J. (Mia) Ugolini of Wichita, KS; stepchildren W. Brett (Haley) Lancaster of Dallas; Angela Coleman of Burleson; Jody (Kyle) Braun of Weatherford; sister Dayle Snack of Toronto, Canada; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and cherished lifelong friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at The Village Church Highland Village Campus, 1700 Highland Village Rd., Highland Village, TX 75077. Memorial donations may be made to Hope of Life International at connect.hopeoflifeintl.org

Sorry to hear about Carlo. I was a neighbour of Carlo's in Toronto, 686 Glengrove Ave. W. Followed Carlo to Cornell to play hockey. Carlo was a year ahead of me, he provided many rides for me to Ithaca. When he was a senior, I a junior, we played on the same line, Carlo was a very talented centerman, we had a very successful season. I lost touch with Carlo when he graduated and continued on his journey, but often thought back to our time together and what had become of him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends!

Carlo Ugolini was larger than life... In 1982, at age 12 I was a rink rat in Ithaca and loved hanging out at Lynah Rink & going to Cornell Hockey games. My favorite player was Carlo "the Magician" Ugolini... I was a hockey player in the Ithaca system and desperately wanted to be able to play as well as Carlo did.... We befriended Carlo as a Sr. at Cornell and invited him over to our family's home as a dinner guest. My goodness, it was a dream come true when Carlo accepted and joined us. He also gave me great counsel at feathering a puck and to spend more time at outdoor shooting. His words and advice stuck to me like glue. That summer he would join us at our home for BBQ's with a few more tips on hockey and CU.

He had astonishing poise on and off the ice and was someone that I could hold in high esteem.... even though I didn't get to play hockey at Cornell. He was a beacon for me to go to Cornell and be a student.

Throughout my career with a Canadian Company - Four Seasons Hotels - I never had the good fortune to see Carlo again. Trust me... when I close my eyes I can see him bringing up the puck from the blue line and deking opposing wingers and defensemen as he accelerates toward the goal - shooting and scoring and mayhem reigns in Lynah!

Rest in Peace Carlo..........

Damn you still stir my heart and emotions.

Ugolini family I send your the Cima Family's condolences.

Thoughtfully,
Robert Cima, Cornell '83

Carlo was my closest cousin in age, and in many ways. We both shared a passion for hockey and baseball. Our early years growing up in Toronto always focused on sports and gatherings at my grandparents' house on Dufferin Street. He lived a very full life, and led the path for many of us to pursue scholarships. He was a great role model and mentor. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time...may he rest in peace.

Carlo was a great leader. I played hockey with him and he always helped everyone improve and find their best position. I saw him carry that same character I. His walk with Jesus. He will be missed by those of us left behind. But I find joy in that he has finally found his best position...walking with the Lord Jesus Christ. Enjoy my friend z catch you in heaven.
