I always enjoyed visiting with Carlos and his family at LA Cabana de Caleta in Acapulco and in San Antonio

Always enjoyed exchanging beer-tales over beers with Carlos at industry events. Most memorable was having a busload of industry executives at my Denver home during the GABF. After saying goodbye as the bus left I returned to my house to start the clean-up. There was Carlos and his brother enjoying their beers. Carlos replied, "Mel, your bar is too comfortable. We couldn't leave." Such was his personality that Carlos never met a stranger. Carlos Alverez, I miss you friend. Prosit!

Never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Alvarez but I admired him at a distance. Having grown up near Shiner, I was aware of his successful efforts to save the Shiner Brewery. He was an astute businessman and, it sounds like, a good human being. My sympathy to the family.

My Sympathy and condolences to Malu and the Alvarez family... I was with Carlos in the Late 70's While working for former Monfrey Distributing as the "Import Brand Manager", When Carlos brought the idea to our company to Introduce Corona in the clear Long Neck bottle, it was a brilliant idea on his Part.. He was very much a leader. God Bless. Jack Leyva

It was always a pleasure to dine each year with Carlos and Malu at Trinity University´s President´s dinner. Carlos was enormously successful but always humble, a great storyteller and extremely personable. We have lost a truly great man...

I met Carlos and Malu in Tahiti. We struck up a conversation in the swimming pool on Oceania Cruise ship. We were trading stories and he and Malu told me that they came from Mexico with the Beer business. I thought to myself, Mexico, beer business. I asked the question, would you happen to know Carlos Alvarez. Malu laughed and said that would be him! I told them my daughter and Son-in-law lived in Shiner Texas. That was in 2009. It was a great introduction to Carlos and Malu. Wonderful couple. My youngest daughter interviewed for a job in 2010 with his Company. She was hired on as logistics coordinator for Shiner Brewery. She worked for Carlos for 14 years. She was privileged to have known Carlos Alvarez personally as a person and one of his many employees. God Bless the Alvarez family! May the Perpetual Light always shine upon Carlos Alvarez!

Singing Feliz Navidad at the Tobin meeting because Rick Cavender left early & now he could have the floor. Also another meeting when I think I went on and on about my history and he noted... and I have all that to say about cars and stuff like April but I can say what I know in one word. Beer. we were all laughing. He was brilliant & always a pleasure to run into with the beautiful Malu. We will all miss him so much. Giant hugs also to my SMH tennis teammates Malu & Carla.

I worked for Carlos for 14 years, through my time with him there was never a time I didn´t learn something from him. He was tough but didn´t always have to have his way. He was generous but took what he deserved.
My heart goes out to Malú and the girls. I´m sorry and God Bless - Dave Rains

I was honored to work for Carlos at the corporate offices for 10 years ... having many opportunities to meet individually with him in his office as well as attend events with him from coast to coast. Every opportunity was an incredible learning experience in what excellence looks like.
Simply expressed ... he was the best leader I ever had the blessing to work for in my long sales career in corporate America.
I also was blessed to attend many events in San Antonio where his incredible bride Malu was present - occasionally being seated next to her and being blessed by the quality she always radiated.
One of my all time favorite days as I look back on my life was the blessing to be invited for a meal at Carlos and Malu´s beautiful home ... a full month after I had left Gambrinus. Just the three of us ... great food, great conversation, and a little adult beverage of course!
I look forward to seeing Carlos in Heaven ... more great conversation and a Shiner Bock (or three) hopefully!

Simply put, Carlos was an extraordinary human being. A loving father and husband. A faithful friend, always an optimist who made his dreams reality.
He had a contagious sense of humor and wit.
He will be missed by all who knew him and many who he helped through his generosity.
Berta and I send our sincerest condolences and love to Malú and his family.

Carlos and I were inducted into the TBHOF in 2010. We became instant friends and worked together to support many organizations: United Way of SA, Haven for Hope, the SA Food Bank, and others.
My fondest memory of Carlos was in. 2014. I was the 2014 Campaign Chair for United Way. Carlos knew that I was concerned that I might miss my campaign goal. He called me and gave me a check for $1M, which I matched. I was at UTSA when his name was put on the Business School. My thoughts and prayers are with Malu and his family. I will miss him very much.

My name is Mark McNaught. I worked for The Gambrinus Company from 2000 - 2008. Before accepting the offer, I requested Mr. Alvarez interview me personally and that it be conducted on a Saturday. Of course, Carlos agreed, and it was the start of a great experience.
We had many direct interactions and worked on numerous initiatives together, generating tremendous successes. Each effort required detailed preparation, active listening, confidence in my numbers and conclusions and humility in achievement.
I sat next to Carlos at many dinners, events and functions. I sought that proximity and was thrilled with his intelligence, command of detail, charm and generosity. One day I shared perhaps Tex-Mex was not so authentic (maybe playing to a perception of his worldliness). It was explained to me, Tex-Mex was organically authentic, a natural result of its influences, cultures, environment and native products. The lesson was not of gastronomy or history, but rather of provincialism and open-mindedness.
When the subject position was eliminated and it was my time to move on, Mr. Alvarez, along with Bill Levine, met with me and Carlos explained his plans in detail. When I asked whether he would join me in a call with the zone managers, he replied "I am only too happy to do that for you". When I wished him all the best, he replied "you wish me good luck, but a bit of it goes on with you".
My family and I are blessed by these experiences and memories. All the best to the family and his company, may these memories also be a blessing to each of you.

Alvarez Family,
My name is David Caneschi and I worked for Carlos @ Gambrinus for 11 years. He was truly a Titan Icon that will be surely missed especially for all who worked for and knew him. An Industry Benchmark for all to measure themselves against. He was an excellent teacher to all, he was firm but fair and always brought the best out in everyone. He wanted for all to be the best they could be.
May God have mercy on his soul, grant him peace and eternal life with all his Saints.
Those we love don´t go away, they walk beside us everyday.
Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.
Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
God Bless You Carlos
May Perpetual Light Shine Upon You
Sincerely
David
