Quijada Family,
As a dear friend of Lou I once had the opportunity and honor to meet Mr. Quijada and what a true blessing that moment was for me. Carlos spoke of family and the love and pride he had for his children and grandchildren. I remember meeting his lovely wife Guadalupe as he held her hand discussing their years together with such a smile on his face as he referred to her as the love of his life. Carlos was a strong man of faith, family and tradition and believed in doing things the right way. Life was not always easy but he worked hard every day to make a positive impact for his family and community. It was a great morning of reflection as he talked of second chances for people to change and make their life better for themselves and others. Carlos spoke of being the head of the family and though that was the hardest job he ever held it was the best moments of his life. I remember talking of responsibility and what that demands for family and how there are times you have to step up and take the lead and your faith would be there to guide you. I will forever be changed for the better with the wisdom he shared that Saturday morning. May you rest in peace and God be with the Quijada family.

Jose and Family,
I read somewhere that "Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal". May your memories sustain you. Love and deepest sympathy to you and yours from a member of your Shepard family in Atlanta, Ga.

Dear Dad,
It's only been 4 days and I miss you so much already. I'm trying to find comfort in our last conversation that I needed to accept God's will because you were ready to accept his will. I can picture you in my mind, in heaven having a bbq with my Tio Tony and my Nino, eating all the ice cream you want. I guess the dream you talked about on your last birthday came true. I didn't know that you died on the 8th anniversary of my Nino's death. I hope he was there to guide you. Remember how we used to laugh about the sounds frogs make? "Birdup, birdup, birdup” You were the reason I started collecting frogs. I will cherish every one figurine you gave me. I will always appreciate the love and support you gave my boys. You and my mom were at every school function, sport games, Cub Scout event, and church activities that my boys were in. Since Eric was born with club feet like I was, I remember our conversation about what to say when people ask me about my Eric (who was a baby) wearing full leg casts.....you said you used to tell people that I had a parachuting accident and broke my legs. :) I'm so glad we named Anthony Carlos after my Tio Tony and you. He carries two honorable names. We are trying to get through this as a family like you wanted. Since we are all hot heads, it's not always easy but we also laugh with each other too. My mom is heartbroken the most. We are all here taking care of her, just like we all promised. Thank you for being such a strong man in my life. I was so proud when you called me your nurse, secretary and lawyer. You have always been there to help me and guide me. I will miss you forever.....until we meet again. I love you tootsie.

Carlos was an honorable and generous man. He worked hard during his career and he had a humorous nature. Family was most important to him and he gave his love to all in his own special way. His legacy will be a family that is close to each other, and that help each other whenever they are needed. This was illustrated big-time during his final illness and trips back and forth from the hospital. The family was there 24 hours with him when they were permitted to stay, and were his eyes and ears with the nurses and doctors during his care in the hospital. They were his angels to lessen his pain and discomfort as much as possible during those difficult days. When he came home, nothing was impossible to try to achieve for him. I send the love of the Ignacio Quijada branch of the family from Rick, Sada and Victoria to Lupe, Gerrie, Lou, Jose and Martha. We are with you in your grief and rejoicing in the life of Carlos. You are in our prayers and know you will carry Carlos in your hearts forever. May you be enfolded by the angels of peace and love.
