Dr Salinas, was an outstanding doctor and person. He was my mentor and friend. He made my time at MUSC bearable and his support was paramount to my education both as an individual and student. Both being Latin, we shared common language and values. Doctor in Latin means "to teach" and he definitely was a true Doctor, something that appears to be lacking in today´s world. As I am currently transitioning from my dental practice in Key West I will forever be grateful to have had him in my life. He impacted my life and imprinted my soul that special ingredient that my patients always say "you´re like no other Doctor that I have ever met". I would often respond by telling them "Well, you never met Dr. Salinas". I am grateful for his family to have shared him with all of us that he lovingly helped.

Dr. Salinas was instrumental in what is today a strong partnership between the Darla Moore School of Business of the University of South Carolina and the Facultad de Economia y Negocios of the Universidad de Chile. By arranging as honorary consul for the Chilean ambassador to the United States he in a sense helped grow a collaboration that had been initiated. Today the institutions are collaborating on four levels: 1) Undergraduate 2) Graduate 3) Doctoral 4) Faculty.
Joint programs have been established and ongoing exchanges are taking place.
Without the help of my friend who provided support with visa related aspects as well it would not have happened. On this anniversary of his passing it is only natural to reflect on one of his achievements.

Dear Dr. Cordova-Salinas and family. I am saddened to hear of your loss and moreso because I only had the honor of meeting your patriarch the one time. However, after reading of his impressive legacy and knowing you as I do I am brought back to teachings of old, specifically, Matthew, 7:20. "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." By his being, you are. By your being who you are, I am who I am. I am grateful he was here and gave a positive impact on my life through his wife and son. Luck and Love in your endeavors, and feel free to call upon me if I may be of service.

"A life well lived" has a special meaning when considering all he was, all he did, and all the love he shared with others. He will be missed. And you are loved.

Dear Maria Asuncion,
My heart-felt condolences. It is tough for me to lose a friend and colleague of 35 years. I can only imagine what it must be like for you and Lola, Andres and Carlos and the grandchildren to lose his smiling presence in your lives.
So many happy memories of collaborative academic endeavors and the memorable trip to Mexico. Greatly regret that I could never repay him in kind by taking a trip to India with him. He had such enthusiasm for learning about traditions, history and culture of my land of birth. Carlos never stopped sharing his enthusiasm for joyful living. I will miss him, may he rest in peace.

It was with very deep sorrow that I heard of Carlos passing. I am sure you will hear similar things from many others but to me Carlos always epitomized the term ‘gentleman'. He was kind, friendly, and told great stories. He fascinated me with his studies of art and his interpretation of anomalies found there. I was thrilled to consider him a friend and honored that he considered me one as well.. He served as an educator and mentor to a whole generation of health professionals. My colleagues and I will miss him terribly. I want to offer my deepest sympathy.

My deepest sympathy to Dr.Salinas family members. While at MUSC(graduating class of 1993) he was the most influential professor I have ever had impacting my life in the most profound way. To this day I refer back to what he taught me and share it with my patients. I can honestly say I am truly blessed for having him in my life. What a wonderful individual and an angel when I needed it the most. He will be missed by all of us!

I met Dr. Salinas last summer when he issued my daughter's student visa for her semester in Chile. His excitement for her was clear and he put me at ease by letting me know what a safe and wonderful country she would be visiting. He was so right. He was a lovely representative of his native country. My deepest condolences.

Querida Maria Asuncion, Lolita, Carlos, Andres, family, difficult to find the right words to express my profound sadness and sorrow for the loss of such a great friend and human being as Carlos was.
I came to Charleston in 1974 and when you and Carlos founded the Club Hispanoamericano de Charleston in 1978 I became a permanent member. What great memories of all our meetings, celebrations of special dates, participating in Spoleto, etc.
I, as I am sure everyone who knew Carlos, consider ourselves blessed by the gift of having known Carlos. I had the privilege of knowing him in his professional capacity by typing his clinical reports during his close friendship and collaboration with Dr. Pai at the Vince Moseley Center.

We have lost a good man, a colleague, a scientist, and a friend. I met Carlos Salinas soon after my arrival at MUSC in 1975. He invited me to join the Circulo Hispano Americano, to which he dedicated unwavering support over the years. We kept in touch, usually at work, and my last conversation with Carlos was on November 12 of last year, when he gave a lecture on "Pathologies on the Pre-Columbian Art" to MUSC's Medical History Club. The room was packed with faculty and students, and he did what he liked to do: teach and transmit his enthusiasm for his profession. We had a long conversation after the lecture. He had not been feeling well for some time, but he rose to the occasion. We both were looking forward to spend Christmas with family. I am glad that he had that wish fulfilled. Maria, my self, Maria Fernanda, and our daughters want to express out deepest sorrow for your loss, which is also a loss for all of us that had got to know Carlos Salinas. May he rest in peace.
