MOORE CARMEN DeSILVA
Carmen DeSilva Moore, 72, of Fox Chapel, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. She was born December 18, 1936 in Corning, NY, daughter of Joseph and Charlotte DeSilva who predeceased her. Graduating from Corning Free Academy, she attended Wilson College and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. Carmen was a very special person loved by those who knew her, with a caring nature evident to all. She lived life to the fullest, traveling all over the world and enjoying skiing in France and Sun Valley, Idaho, golfing, biking, rowing at Keuka Lake and scuba diving in Mexico. She served in many volunteer organizations with a special continuing service at the "Red Door" at Saint Mary of Mercy Church downtown Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Longue Vue Club and the Perennial Garden Club. Her church was very important to her and she sang in the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church Choir. A supporter of the arts she especially enjoyed the Pittsburgh Opera and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Her faith and strength during her almost five year battle with cancer is an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by James S. Moore, her love and best friend since high school and husband of 53 years. To her, her family was the most important part of her life. She is survived by four wonderful and supportive children and their spouses; Anne (Steve) Currie, Kevin (Beth) Moore, Kristen (John) Stevens and Scott (Lynne) Moore. She was a very special Gramma Carmen/Mimi to eleven beautiful grandchildren; Kristin (Tim) Kenyon, Nicholas Currie, Allie Stevens, MacKenzie Stevens, Cooper Stevens, Jackson Stevens, Treavor Moore, Ryan Moore, Nathan Moore, Justin Moore and Brett Moore. She was predeceased by a sister Prudence Hill and is survived by a sister Deborah Peirce. She will be sorely missed by all who knew this beautiful and special woman. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday March 28th in the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church. Interment private. The family will receive friends, in celebration of her life, following the service at the Pittsburgh Field Club. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to the Red Door St Mary of Mercy Church, 202 Stanwix Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 , Fox Chapel Episcopal Church, 630 Squaw Run Road East, Pittsburgh, PA 15238 or charity of your choice..
