Carol Ann Murdoch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 6, 2024.
Carol Ann Long Murdoch, 81, of Gilbertsville, PA, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

She was born in Pottstown, PA in 1942 to Philomena (Mincarelli) Long and Paul Roshong Long Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, "Buzzy" Paul R. Long, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul R. Murdoch Sr. and her children Paul Jr., and wife Hillary (Herbein); Michael and wife Rosemarie (Geary); Christopher and wife Amy (Savage); and Nicholas and wife Jennifer (Tatar). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Nicholas Harris, Timothy Harris, Danielle Murdoch, Gabrielle Murdoch, Scarlet Murdoch, Charles Murdoch, and Gwendolyn Murdoch, as well as two great grandchildren: Lucas Harris and Isabelle Harris.

Carol graduated from Bishop Kendrick high school in Norristown in 1960, and became an LPN after attending Practical Nursing School in Norristown for two years. She worked as a private nurse for the father of Leonard Tose, one time owner of the Philadelphia Eagles. She also worked as a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, the Johnson Home, Valley Forge Rehab Hospital, and Manatawny Manor. She retired in 1999.

In the 1960s, before she was married, she went on the adventure of a lifetime, driving cross-country with a friend to California. Her dream was to see the giant Sequoias. Her fondest childhood memory was going fishing with her father and catching nothing but turtles. She was known for cookie baking, and those who knew her looked forward to her elaborate Christmas cookie platters. She always wanted a house full of boys and was most proud of her four adult sons. She was close to her brother "Buzzy", who lived in California, and his children: Christine (Long) Batchelor, Barbara (Long) Bosch, and Paul Long III. She was lovingly known as "Bunny" by her large extended family.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schwenksville, PA on Friday, February 9th. The family will receive friends at 10am and the funeral mass will be at 11am. She will be buried at Limerick *Garden of Memories following the mass. A reception immediately following internment will be planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Catholic television network ETWN.

"Hello, may I please speak with the mother of John?"

This was the beginning of a wonderful friendship! When Carol, Paul, and Nick moved to Florida with Paul´s job, Nick and my son, John Ross, became fast friends. John Ross wanted to visit Nick at his apartment, but, being the overprotective parents Russ and I were we wouldn´t let him. Thus, Carol´s phone call. I loved her right then and there. Not only was John Ross allowed to visit, he practically lived there!

Carol was a beautiful, sweet friend. She was so faithful, honest, straight as an arrow, direct, selfless, a little mischievous. Carol loved her family, especially Paul.

I consider it a great blessing that we laughed a lot together, we shared many lunches with Anita, Winnifred, and Dorothy, we played together, we worshiped together, sang together, volunteered together. It is a privilege to be counted among Carol´s friends.

I can see that God´s hand guided her to call me that day, many years ago. Now He has called her home. May she rest in peace in His arms.

Carol was a dear friend and even though distance kept us apart for the last several years, I will miss her greatly. She had a loving, giving heart and a beautiful smile and would always tell me the truth. What a beautiful blessing she was to me and to all who knew her.
