Carol Jean Loudermilk Chick, 88, passed away February 16, 2025 in
Colleyville, Texas. She was born in Beeville, Texas on August 6, 1936, to parents Lauron Anderson Loudermilk and Gladys LaRue Milby Loudermilk. She graduated from Beeville High School in 1954 where she excelled in Music and was a skilled marksman on the Rifle team. She attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas before earning her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas at Austin in December 1957.
While at UT, Carol met Charles Eugene ("Gene") Chick on a blind date, and they were married January 31, 1958 in Austin. The couple moved to Beaumont, Texas where Gene began his career at Gulf States Utilities. The couple's first child, Alan was born in February 1959, followed 3 years later by their 2nd son, Arden in February 1962. Carol and Gene were active in the Church choir and enjoyed playing volleyball at the YMCA. They were also active in the Beaumont Kennel Club, and their beloved Corgi, Rhoddy, won Best in Show in 1967. Carol also served as "Den Mother" and "Team Mom" with both boys active in Boy Scouts and Little League.
In 1972, Gene's career took them to Bridgewater, New Jersey when he joined Stone & Webster Management Consultants based in New York City. Living in the heart of Revolutionary War territory during the Bicentennial was a treat for the History enthusiast in Carol, and the family visited numerous Historical sites in the region during their time in New Jersey.
In 1977, Gene's company opened an office in Denver, Colorado and they jumped at the opportunity to live in the State they had fallen in love with on family camping trips in 1969 and 1970. With the boys off to college, Carol was free to pursue her interests and her yard in Littleton flourished with the most beautiful flower gardens and birds. She 4-wheeled, rafted, hiked, snow-shoed, and cross country skied all over the Rockies with Gene and a group of ladies from the church. Never having the career of teaching History that she pictured for herself as a young woman, she did serve as Office Manager for Columbine United Church many years. Carol and Gene travelled around Europe with the Denver Concert Band - Gene playing Baritone and Carol playing Flute as a as a fill- in on the tours when needed.
Gene passed away in 2003 after a 3-year battle with Pancreatic Cancer, and Carol moved to
Colleyville, Texas to be closer to family in 2005. She had a "Mother-in-Law" house on Arden's property and enjoyed being involved with family and rekindling friendships with old friends. She was an avid reader but spent much of her time enjoying the long gardening season in Texas and gentrifying an acre lot that had once been home to llamas. Summer weekends when family and friends gathered for pool parties are special memories - perhaps her favorite being the 1st weekend in August when she celebrated her and Great-Granddaughter Brooke's shared August 6th Birthday!
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Gene; her parents, brothers: Jack Wayne Loudermilk and Lauren Anderson Loudermilk (Jr.), sisters: Gloria Larue Loudermilk Durant and Patricia Fain Loudermilk Garrett, son: Alan Frederick Chick (Dec 1993).
Carol is survived by son Arden and wife, Melanie who are blessed to have shared the last 20 years with her; Grand Children (Alan): Jessica Chick Brennan and husband Ryan, Great Grand Children Jaylin and Jaxson; and Jason Robert Alan Chick. Grand Children (Arden): Casey Maxfield and husband Tyler, Great Grand Children Connor and Brooke; Holly Black and husband James; Dylan Smith and fiancé Alice Tsang.
Survivors also include many cousins, nieces and nephews from the Chick and Loudermilk extended families.
