Carol Atwood Daniels

Daniels, Carol Atwood Age 90, of Wayzata, on April 1. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey "Hobby" Daniels in 1993. She was born Carol Lee Atwood, daughter of Henry Elkins "Hap" Atwood, who became president of the First Bank (now U.S. Bank) and mother Marian Woodward Atwood, called "Mannie." Carol was educated at Northrup School, the Madeira School, and Vassar College. During WWII, she drove a Red Cross blood truck in the city while waiting for her fiancé and two brothers, Jack and Roger Atwood, to return from their service in Europe and the Pacific. Carol and Harvey were married in 1946, and he began his career in banking and economics. Carol raised her three children in Deephaven, and became increasingly involved with public service. She sat on the Women's Board of Abbott Northwestern Hospital and also volunteered for Wayside House. In 1976, she cofounded Perspectives, an agency for women with chemical dependency focusing on the western suburbs. She served on the board for many years, since then Perspectives has grown and expanded greatly. In 2009 the agency awarded her and the other founders by naming each of their women's shelter houses after them (Carol's House). Carol is survived by her children Harvey ("Smokey") and wife Elaine of Santa Fe, NM; daughter Lee, of Denver CO; and daughter Terrell and husband Jon, of Minneapolis; grandchildren Ben Ogren. Allison Ogren McKenzie, Nicholas Daniels, Marny Daniels, and Cameron Ming Montgomery. A memorial service will be held later in the Spring. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or the Kennedy's Disease Association.
