Bernard D. Marcotte, age 81, passed away Saturday morning, December 29, 2007, at the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 15, 1926, the son of Wilfred and Mary Coty Marcotte.

He grew up and attended school in Los Angeles until the beginning of World War II. The family moved to Concordia, Kansas, to help on the family farm when his uncles all joined the service. Bernie joined the Army Air Corp after he graduated from high school and served as a tail gunner on a B-17 in Europe.

After the war he worked at the Sunflower Ordnance plant in Kansas. In 1954 he started working for Montgomery Ward in Lawrence, Kansas. He moved to Independence, Missouri, when the Blue Ridge Mall was opened. He was the Department Manager over Men's Clothing. He retired in 1989 with thirty-five years of service.

In 1985 Bernie and Dorothy purchased their lake home at Herb's Beach and moved there full time in 1990. In 1991 Bernie and Dorothy were building a raised garden for tomatoes when the delivery man invited them to come to square dance lessons in Warsaw. They met the McConnells who taught lessons for the Damsite Dancers. Their new friends invited them to First United Methodist Church where they started building their new family of friends in the Ozarks.

Bernie is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Dorothy, of the home, one sister, Eleanor Daily, of Manhattan, Kansas, two sons and a daughter, Dale Green , and his wife, Lou, of Milan, Missouri, Dennis Green, and his wife, Martha, of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Deanna Lopez, of Blue Springs, Missouri, six grandchildren, Bernie Lopez, Megan & Toby Havens, Seth Green, Amy & David Jacoby, Adam Hitchcock, and Chris & Amy Sue Jacoby, three great-grandchildren, Adrianna Havens, Addie Jacoby, and Allyson Jacoby.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Warsaw, Missouri, with Rev. Eric Derks officiating, with a visitation at the church one hour prior to the services.

A second funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 3rd, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri, with a visitation there one prior to the services. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Memory Garden Cemetery in Independence.
