Carol A. Gogas

Carol A. Gogas, of Taylor, died Saturday at Commonwealth Hospice.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Michael and Rose Mary Rorick Butler, Carol was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish at the Church of St. Joseph. She was educated in St. Mary's School and was a graduate of Marywood College with a B.A. in early childhood education. Before retirement, Carol was a teacher at St. Mary's School in the Greenwood section of Moosic.

Carol enjoyed reading and crocheting, and was a foster parent for several children. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are five daughters, Lucinda Teague and husband, Jerome, Scranton; Lynda Gogas and husband, Gene, Derby, Conn.; Christine DeFuria and husband, Alfonse, Dickson City; Donna Yearing and husband, Edmund, Scranton; and Michelle Gogas, Carbondale; three sons, Richard Gogas and wife, Paula, Pittston; Christopher Gogas and wife, Sherri, Cadez, Ky.; and Paul Gogas, Arizona; two sisters, Kathy Hunter, Fla.; and Shirley Adams, Altoona; two brothers, Michael Butler, Haddon Heights, N.J.; and Thomas Butler, Scranton; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Gogas; and four sisters, Dorothy Shimo, Betty Cicotti, Joanne Schuster and Rose Layo.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Divine Mercy Parish at the Church of St. Joseph, to be celebrated by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
