In Loving Memory of Carol Marlene Michaelis (Bannec)

January 20, 1961 – May 19, 2025

With fierce determination, boundless humor, and a heart full of love, Carol Marlene Michaelis passed away on May 19, 2025, after a courageous journey with stage 4 cancer-a journey she faced with bravery, grace, and a stubborn refusal to give up.

Carol lived life on her terms. Her powerful, positive mindset never wavered, and her no-bs attitude inspired everyone around her. She stayed true to herself until the very end, embracing every moment and continuing to live fully, laugh often, and love deeply. Always trying to make us laugh and she did, right up to the end.

Carol is survived by the loves of her life-her husband, William (Bill), her daughter Alexandra (Ali), and her son William (Will). She is also survived by her mother Marlene, and brothers Eric and Greg and stepdaughter, Laura. She is preceded in death by her father, John and sister, Ingrid and stepdaughter, Melissa.

Her no-nonsense personality was admired by all. We discovered Carol kept absolutely every letter, every trinket and gift her children and anyone has ever given her. Her love was deep, constant, and paper driven.

A woman of many trades, Carol never let life's challenges slow her down. Over the years, she wore many hats. Her final years were spent as a realtor in Venice, Florida. Her open and welcoming personality allowed her to befriend anyone. No one was ever a stranger to her.

Carol found joy in amusing and entertaining her family and friends. She always got on the school bus on Halloween in a witch costume. On the last day of school every year, she blasted Alice Cooper's infamous "School's Out". Perhaps her most talented skill was fattening up Bill with her wonderful, gourmet cooking.

Her life was encompassed by six F-words: fun, food, family, friends, Florida, and "F'it." That philosophy was her mantra-embracing joy, love, and a bit of rebellion at every turn.

Carol leaves behind not just a family who adored her, but a legacy of light, laughter, and strength. Her spirit will forever echo in her walks on the beach, seeing dolphins, Disney and the beat of "Dancing Queen."

A celebration of Carol's life will be held in the coming months, and we invite all to come share their love and embrace the wonderful, unforgettable woman she was. Please be patient for more information regarding the celebration of Carol's life.

I'm reading the sad news of Carol's passing from my home in Washington State. Carol and I were classmates at ILS and VHS. From her obituary it sounds like her joyful spirit as a girl carried with her throughout her life. My condolences to her family at the time of this tremendous loss. May Carol's memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Warmly, Kathie Caemmerer- Bach

Carol was a most loyal friend to my daughter Holly when they were neighbors in Indianapolis. I did not worry about her with Carol at her side other than that they might have "too much fun!" Glad they remained friends to this day and happy I saw Carol at the Hager wedding in 2023. Blessed to have known her. Carol Ray
