Carol Harowitz Miller

I will miss Carol's sense of timing and humor in the newsletter as I always looked forward to her introduction to the new session. Since I found QU I had a goal of taking every class, but did not come close to accomplishing this. I am saddened that QU will not continue and wish there was some manner in which it could. The outreach it has had and the people it has brought together over the years has been incredible. She will be sorely missed and I can only offer my condolences to her wonderful family as they loaned her to us through QU.

Oh, what a loss! She truly made a difference to so many lives, not many people can say that they really earned their little bit of space on this earth, but Carol surely did. My sincere condolences to all of her family and friends. Jane Templeman, UK

I so loved Carol's introductions to her newsletters every month and thought she was such a wonderful writer as well as quilter. I never met her personally yet I felt like she was my friend and I knew her through her wonderful stories. I was so saddened to hear of her passing and my deepest sympathy go to her family who I know she loved immensely. We have lost a dear woman and I will miss her.

Carol touched the lives of more people than any of us will truly know. Thoughts are with family and friends. We all need to get in our sewing room and make Carol proud

Through Quilt University Carol touched the lives of so many people that she was never able to meet in person. She will be so missed by the Quilt University family. My heart felt sympathy to her family for their loss she was a great person to reach out as she did.

Carol made a valuable contribution to the education of quilters by developing Quilt University so online classes could be available to many. She will be missed.

I did not know Carol personally but came to know her through her monthly newsletter. I looked forward to reading about her take on life events and how it affected her quilting and her life. Carol did a great thing when she started QU, she will be missed. My condolences to Carol's family.

I typically don't read newsletters but when the QU newsletter hit my inbox I was always anxious to see what Carol had to say. I was very sadden when I received that newsletter this morning. In the past I had copied and pasted her wonderful words to try to help encourage others as she did me. I have never met Carol but I have taken many classes at QU and learned from her and the other teachers. May you rest in peace Carol and I know your family, friends and QU students will miss you deeply!

I was sadden to hear of Carol's illness and now her passing. I looked forward to her newsletters, so many of which struck a cord in my life and initiated a delightful e-mail exchange. My sincere sympathy to her family.

Carol's beginner quilting class on QU got me started in quilting 10 years ago and it has turned into a wonderful hobby. I'm sure there are many older women like me whose lives have been very enriched by what she started. Blessings to her family.

I have taken several Quilt University courses over several years. The fact that the classes are available 24/7 is what enables this highly nocturnal quilter to take classes I would never have had access to otherwise. A very sad lost for the quilting world.

Carol taught a quilt class in my guild several years ago. It was a lively and informative class, but the project is still in my UFO pile (Un Finished Object.) I've been meaning to finish it up this year. I'll hold kind thoughts for Carol as I work through that mini quilt project. Warm condolences to her family.

Carol gave a couple of wonderful programs at my quilt guild many years ago. She was a pioneer when she started QU. I took a few classes through QU. So sorry to hear of her passing. The quilting community has lost a lovely lady. Condolences to her family.

I've also interviewed her and helped spread the word about Quilt University in various magazine articles and books when QU first started and throughout the years. I was very saddened to learn of her passing. She will be missed more than my words can adequately express.

Carol was the best boss I have ever had. I am so glad I told her that...often, actually..because she was. Without a doubt.

I taught at QU for almost the entire time of its existence. Carol mentored me as a businesswoman and especially as a teacher. She more than once set me straight; she counseled me; she told me the truth- always. I have kept many of her emails that contained such a wealth of wisdom about how to handle people- especially "difficult" people. She always protected me and expected the best from me. I called her "da bomb" because she was. Thank you, Carol. You da bomb.

Thank you Carol for what you done to the quilting community. You furthered the love of the art.

I am so sorry to hear that Carol died. I still can't believe it. It is such a shock. I have taken many Quilt University classes since 2006, including one taught by Carol (and I would have taken more of her classes). I learned so much from all of the classes I took. I did not know her personally but I feel like she was a friend. She was always very encouraging. It is a wonderful organization, and I cannot praise it highly enough. QU offers a broad range of classes taught by many talented teachers. The whole design of the site is very user friendly and I don't recall ever having a problem with any aspect of QU. Not only was Carol very knowledgeable about quilting, she was an innovator in creating QU. She was a tireless administrator behind the scenes, posting the many student submitted photos for the many classes going on concurrently. I'm sure I don't know just how much work was involved! She was also very gracious and timely in answering emails. I signed up for a class this past summer, and a few days later I broke my wrist. I knew that I would not be able to do the class work, and I asked for and received a refund, as well as several nice emails from Carol. Many organizations would not have been so generous. I really appreciated her kindness. She regularly checked the main discussion forum and offered her help to the many students who posted questions. I have the utmost respect for her. Through QU, she made a huge contribution to the world of quilting. Carol created an international quilting community through QU, and she will be sincerely missed by people from all over the world. I will miss her. I'm sorry I didn't get to take more of her classes.

Without Carol I wouldn't be quilting the way I do. I'm so sorry hearing this sad news and my deep sympathy goes to the family. She will not be forgotten!

Carol was one in a million: a friend and teacher to thousands of women all over the world who enjoyed all the classes she ran through Quilt University. No matter how busy her schedule she always found the time to help each and every one of us with patience, understanding, wisdom, and good humour. Distance precluded us from meeting in person too often but I enjoyed my visits to the QU campus and catching up on all our news over some cheesecake or some other treat. I cannot believe she is gone. I loved her letters on Quilt University. I sometimes had to write to her, just because I loved them so. She was always so warm and friendly. She always helped when I had a question about the classes. I know we all have to go, but she left too soon.

Carol will be missed for her generosity of spirit and her inspiration to her students. She was an excellent teacher, I know as I have taken a class from Quilt University. I am very sad to hear of her demise.

I met Carol through our Janome sewing machine list and she was always willing to share wisdom and offer encouragement. She reminded me to listen to my own voice and trust my own creative ideas. I discoved Quilt U. when our children were young. We live in a rural area and our sone has autism so I was struggling and housebound. Quilt u brought the world to my door and when I was quilting all was right with our world. Carol was always so kind and gracious.I am so sorry for the family's loss and the loss to the textile world.
