Carol Weed

January 26, 1931 - July 17, 2024

Carol Kingsbury Weed passed away peacefully in Tempe, Arizona at the age of 93. She was born in Weslaco, Texas to Warren and Madeleine Kingsbury, who owned a newspaper printed on a Linotype machine. The family moved often for her father's career, so Carol grew up in Marshall, Missouri; Evanston, Illinois; Seattle, Washington; and Westfield, New Jersey before attending the University of Missouri.

A lifelong liberal Democrat, she moved to New York City to work on the Adlai Stevenson campaign and there met her first husband, Charles Frances Vetter. For a time, they lived in London with Carol helping Vetter and others produce several British and American 1950's horror films. The couple separated and she returned to New York where she met jazz pianist Buddy Weed. They married in 1961, started a family and settled in Tempe, Arizona where she built a career in administration and education administration. She also worked as an editor, including on collections of New York Times crossword puzzle reprints for Simon & Schuster.

As an avid reader, Carol loved solving crossword puzzles. She was highly social and would often organize events such as international travel or just a trip to a local concert or museum for her and her friends. Nothing seemed to faze or worry her as she held the most positive outlook for her entire life.

She is survived by her son Andrew Weed and stepson Bruce (Linda) Weed, sister-in-law Linda Kingsbury, niece Alissa (Mark) McLean, nephews Tim (Sarah) Kingsbury and James Kingsbury, step-grandson Christopher Weed, and great nieces and nephews Will McLean, Molly McLean, Emily McLean, Wade Kingsbury, and Caitlin Kingsbury.
