We did not have the privilege of meeting Carole, but we have tremendous respect for her daughter, Theresa. It seems clear that her strength and spirit will live on in Theresa, who is also tireless in her efforts to advocate for those who need a voice.

When you've known someone for 40 years, it's hard to imagine she won't always be around. Whether protesting Honeywell's production of fragmentation bombs during the war in Indochina, or speaking out against the ignorance and hysteria surrounding AIDS, or embracing her rich Ojibwe heritage, Carole brought humor and passion and a sense of justice to everything. We grew more distant, but I will hear your laughter in the chattering of the squirrel, and remember your firey spirit when your cardinal comes by. Love to Theresa and Nancy and Susan and Mary in this time of letting go.

Carole was and will always be one our Champions. I had the priviledge of working with her in the early 90s and will ever remember her feisty spirit and her determination to protect our indigenous traditions. God Bless her family and her spirit journey.

One of my early mentors as I learned how to respond to AIDS. Thank you, Carole.

It was my honor to meet Carole through her wonderful daughter Theresa as Theresa journeyed through graduate school to earn her PhD. I did not know Carole well but her eyes sparkled with pride when she talked about her daughter. My condolences to all Carole's family and friends.
