Carolyn Lee Parker, 1951-2024

Carolyn Parker died peacefully February 17, 2024, at the age of 72. She had been a resident of Brisbane California since 1999, where she served on the Brisbane Planning Commission and the Brisbane Baylands Community Action Group, among others.

Carolyn Lee Parker started life April 4, 1951 in New Jersey the second child of music scholar Dale Parker and Fern Parker, a chemist, both from Fresno, California. Carolyn then spent the next few years of her life in Puerto Rico. After a brief stay in Mississippi, the growing family then moved back to California, eventually settling in San Anselmo where Carolyn attended school.

After Sir Francis Drake High School, class of 1969, she attended the College of Marin as a music student specializing in the flute. She also spent some time at San Francisco State before graduating from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a BFA. Carolyn departed the Academy as a skilled ceramic artist, which was a lifelong interest. Carolyn kept a keen interest in working on ceramic art, painting, children's stories and cartooning, photography and writing in her spare time and playing the flute and keyboards.

Prior to completing her Art degree, Carolyn started an apprenticeship with a nutritionist which led her on the path to becoming a naturopath. She established her own solo practice in 1989. Carolyn spent the rest of her work life in the natural health field helping people from all levels of society.

In the wake of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, Carolyn met her future husband and lifelong companion Robert Howard. After Carolyn moved from San Francisco to Brisbane, California she became a long-time member of her HOA board advocating for the members until her passing.

She assisted in the production of the Live at Mission Blue concert series, which took place for several years in Brisbane, introducing members of the community to classical music performers from far and wide.

An avid environmentalist Carolyn served for 7 years as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Brisbane during one of the most difficult project planning phases for the city. After this in 2017 she became a Trustee of the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District serving on various committees until her passing.

Carolyn was an avid walker, hiker and traveler spending 6 months in the 1970s exploring Mexico. Later in life she went on various trips to different places with her husband Robert. She loved the water and when in her late teens spent time supervising children white water rafting. In her later years she took up sailing with her husband and was a member of the Sierra Point Yacht Club.

Carolyn was an accomplished cook and delighted in preparing from scratch, meals she had sampled in other countries.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Robert Howard, her sisters Janice and Lorna, her brother Kenneth along with her niece Jasmine and nephews Adrian, Justin and Ruben. She is sorely missed.

There was a celebration of her life at the Sierra Point Yacht Club. March 24, 2024

Carolyn was my very first lover. It was 1969 in San Anselmo CA. The photo of her holding a wine glass is 1969. (I am Lee McClure)
My favorite memory is the photo of Carolyn and me the last time I met her in 2018, Marin County. Also I love the photo she sent me of her in the mountains, 1971.
We wrote a poem together. One line that Carolyn wrote was: "Land ducks toiling with tough terrain."
I will always remember her bubbly witty clever voice that never ceased to amaze me. When I moved to NYC in 1971, we would talk on the phone. She always made me laugh.
In California a vivid visual memory is when we had wine, cheese and bread on a sunny hill in Lagunitas, Marin County.
A month before she died, she sent me her ebony flute. When I learned of her passing, I recorded on her ebony flute this 3 minute piece in two movements: "In Memory of Carolyn Parker" 1) Upon Learning of Carolyn's Passing 2) Carolyn's Bubbly Voice. -- link to recording:

I learned from Carolyn how to be cheerful in the face of adversity. I remember after one her major surgeries, she gleefully told me the about the robotic-surgery machine with 7 arms. - Whow - that is so Carolyn !!
