Carolyn Supan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15, 2017.
Carolyn Mae Supan

Ojai, CA

Carolyn Mae Supan, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Ojai, CA on January 2, 2017 with family at her side. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Supan, sons, Robert and Bryan, and brother, Eugene Nagle.

She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great -grandmother, as well as a true and authentic friend to many. Carolyn was born May 23, 1925 to Orville and Bertha Nagle, and was raised in Santa Barbara, California where her love of the beach and mountains began. She spent her childhood summers with her grandfather, a park ranger at Refugio, Wheelers and Seezar Canyon in Ojai. The time spent there became the backdrop for many a story she would tell over the years. In 1948 she married Thomas Supan and settled in Ventura.

She and Thomas raised five sons, Robert, Scott, Mark, Greg and Bryan. "The boys", as she liked calling them were involved in sports, and she spent many hours cleaning uniforms, cooking homemade meals and nursing their many sports injuries. She would travel to their many and various sporting activities to cheer them on. Carolyn was very active in the Lights for Larrabee Stadium committee as well as the Ventura High School Booster Club. She loved the beach where she and the boys spent long summer days swimming, surfing and barbequing. Carol with her husband lived in Yosemite for two years; time spent there became some of her favorite memories. She often would invite various neighbor children on their camping trips to Yosemite National Park, Wheelers Camp Ground, or Refugio State Park. Instilling the love of the outdoors was one of her greatest gifts to the boys.

During Carol's working career she worked as a secretary in both the public and private sector and ended her working days as the secretary to the principal at Buena High School.

She was a marvelous baker; often times making two Wacky Cakes a week trying to keep her five bottomless pits full. She was also known as the "Casserole Queen" doing her part to make a dime stretch.

Carol spent her later years in Oak View and Ojai. She enjoyed lunches out with friends, weekly card games, and puzzles. She also loved to read; mystery novels were her favorite. But, above all, she enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by her sons, Scott Supan (wife Michele) of Ojai, Mark Supan (wife Melissa) of Rancho Cordova, Gregory Supan (wife Lynn) of Ojai; grandchildren, Shawn, Nicole, Thomas, Denis, Cody, Lindsey, Meredith, Matthew, Kayla and Kaitlyn; and great- grandchildren, Marlin, Indiana, and Rowan.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., February 18, 2017 at Bible Baptist Church, 390 Old Ventura Ave, Oakview, CA, 93022 with a reception following at the Ojai Villa Estates club house, 70 Baldwin Rd., Ojai, CA, 93023.

Scott,Mark, Greg and family, your parents, grandparents were the nicest people welcoming everyone into heir home. Mrs. Supan was the neighborhood mom who always included everyone. I have many good memories, trips to the beach, neighborhood parties and my first trip out of California with your family. Your parents were the best. Those Wacky Cakes! May we all be so lucky to see them again in heaven. My sincere condolences and love Teresa.

I feel like I have lost a family member.

Mrs. Supan, was my favorite Mom of our neighborhood (and we had several great mom's there). On warm summer days, she would load a bunch of us neighborhood kids in her station wagon and cart us off to Bob and Judy's pool for swim day.

There were also many a day we would hang out in the Supan's garage playing pool or in the family room watching TV.

Mrs. Supan was easy going but she didn't allow us to become unruly. She'd speak and we listened. We loved and respected her.

The only thing that makes her passing easier for me, is that she is once again united with Mr. Supan, Brian and Bob.

My sincere sympathy to her "boys" and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very sad time.

Sorry for your loss. I Was very fond of Carol while she was at Buena. We had a great relationship and had a lot of fun together. She was a wonderful person. Take what you loved about her and honor her by living those qualities every day. God Bless.

I am very sorry to hear of Carol's passing. I worked with her several years ago when she was the receptionist for Robinson & Lamey in Piru. She was very proud of her family and often shared pictures of them. May she rest in paradise and may God comfort her family as only He can.
