Carrie Priebe Obituary

Published by Daily Record on Aug. 15, 2015.
Carrie Priebe
Carrie Lindberg Priebe of Ellensburg passed away on Friday, August 07, at her home in Puyallup, Washington. Carrie had celebrated her 92nd birthday last year. She was born to Carl and Bertha Lebakken Carlson in Beresford, South Dakota, in 1922. She grew up in Yankton County, South Dakota along with her brothers Christ, Martin, Alvin and sister Olga. All of her family had predeceased her.
After World War II she met Arthur Nelson Lindberg and, after a short romance, they married on the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona in the summer of 1945. When he completed his tour of duty they moved to Renton, Washington where they raised their 4 children. In 1959 Carrie lost her husband in an untimely death. While raising her children as a single mother, Carrie was very active in her church, St. Mathews Lutheran that was a central part of her family's life. When Carrie worked at Szabos food kitchen, a contractor of Boeing, she met her future husband Charles "Chuck" Arthur Priebe, an aircraft engineer. They courted for 11 years and married in Spark's, Nevada in 1972. They resided in Redmond, Washington until the late 1970's when they moved to Ellensburg, Washington. There they started a small cattle ranch and immersed themselves into the community. Carrie became a committed volunteer at Kittitas Valley Hospital, where she was recognized for her dedicated service. She was a strong and committed parishioner of Ellensburg Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where her focus was on children, and in particular those children less fortunate. Most Sunday's she would be found volunteering in the church child care, and after that she would go to the hospital and work in the nursery and help comfort the babies who were hospitalized. She also volunteered at the Ellensburg Rodeo, and worked alongside her husband Chuck at the Ellensburg Field and Stream Club. She loved living in Eastern Washington, and loved the small town feel. She shared her love of the outdoors with Chuck, her best friend and husband, who predeceased her in 2004. She remained in Ellensburg until 2010, when she moved to Bonney Lake, Washington.
She is survived by her children, Kent Lindberg and wife Patti, Valerie Fischer and husband Chuck, Cindi Sterling and husband Gene, and Dean Lindberg and his wife Rina and her step children, John Priebe and wife Marla, Karen Strickland, Lynn Gardner and her husband Mike. Carrie was a devoted grandmother to Stacey delaFuente, Nikki Nakata, Kayla Woods, Joshua Gordon, Cole Fischer, Morgan Fischer, Kristina Kuntz, David Gordon, Evin Lindberg, Lynae Lindberg, Todd Haugman, Grant Haugman, Jeff Priebe, Tenny Priebe, Mike Strickland, Ottila Haberle and 17 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her step-daughter Gail Haberle Tafoya and step-grandchildren Rio Tafoya and Ray Strickland.
In memory of Carrie Priebe, the family would appreciate contributions to be made in the name of Carrie Priebe to Bright Beginnings of Kittitas County (http://www.bbfkc.org/)

Carrie was a lovely lady. I had many wonderful visits with her at Church functions - and I look forward to many more when I join her and the family of God in Heaven!
