Carrol Washington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 30 to Jul. 2, 2022.
Carrol (Cornelius) Washington went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the first day of Summer, June 21, 2022. Carrol was born on the first day of Spring, March 20, 1932, in Waterproof Louisiana to Mary Sims Washington and LB Washington Sr. He was educated in the Tensas Parish school system before coming to New Orleans to attend Dillard University on a music scholarship. Having an ambitious spirit, he purchased his own cab and put it online with White Fleet Cabs. His cab was one of the first Rambler cabs in the City of New Orleans. Due to the fact that he kept his White Fleet cab immaculate, it was highly requested as a backdrop for movie productions. Carrol had a love for music. In 1970, he joined forces with two dear friends and the song writing team of Caraljo Music was born. In 1970, the team of talented writers penned the Grammy nominated double platinum hit Mr. Big Stuff, which was sung by recording artist Jean Knight. Receiving that nomination and attending the Grammys was the highlight of his musical career. His love of God led him to Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He functioned as the recording secretary and a deacon of the church until his health declined. If you ask Carrol what his biggest accomplishments was, he would say being a dedicated husband and father. He loved his family dearly. He leaves to mourn his passing, four sons, Jerry Brooks, Kenneth Washington, Cornelius Washington, and Chad Washington (Carmencita), one daughter Carol Washington-Veal, two daughters-in-law, Linda Fay Washington and Wanda Arnaud, three sisters Sarah Taylor, Mary Wiley, and Margery Washington. Carrol was also blessed with a large, blended family. This family consists of seven daughters, Fay, Jeanette, Anna, Eva, Lisa, Dawn, and Tara, and three sons, Alvin, James, and Todd. He also leaves to mourn numerous grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by three wives Naomi Lucas Washington, Frederica Battle Washington, and Carrie Jean McNeil Washington, two sons Floyd Washington and Cecil Washington, four brothers LB Washington, Booker T. Washington, Abraham Washington, and Charlie Washington Sr., one sister Rose Tripplet, one son-in law Kevin Veal Sr. and one grandson Rashawn Washington. Shareholders and employees of Caraljo Music, Inc., and Judges and staff of New Orleans Civil District Court are invited to attend Carrol's Home Going Celebration at Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 2601 Dryades Street, New Orleans, LA 70113 on July 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., under the direction of Bishop Germaine Davis. The visitation will begin at 9:00 am. The interment will be private. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home. Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the online guestbook.
