Carter Cwiertniak Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2025.
Auburn - Carter John Cwiertniak of Auburn, IL, 16 months old, passed away in his parents' arms on September 1, 2025 after a long battle with congenital heart disease(CHD).

He was born on April 23, 2024 to Joshua & Cheri (Michelich) Cwiertniak. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Theodore Cwiertniak; paternal grandparent, Mark Cwiertniak(late Anita); maternal grandparents, Rich and Beth Michelich; uncles, Dan Cwiertniak and Russell Michelich, as well as many other family members.

Carter was a happy little boy who loved to explore, climb, and play with toys with his brother Theo. During his battle with CHD, Carter showed the world how strong he was, how to fight with all your strength, and gave others joy in the worst of times. He was truly loved by all and will be sorely missed by all.

The family would like to thank the PCTU medical team at CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. Special thanks to Dr. Vitale, Dr. Owens, Dr. Aiyagari and nurses- Kristy, Carolyn, Kendall, Stephanie, Sarah, and Evan, along with the rest of the team. Special thanks to Dr. LaRossa and Dr. Miller of St. Louis Children's Hospital.

A picnic to celebrate Carter's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Knight's Action Park Pavilion behind Tradewinds, 1700 Recreation Drive, Springfield, IL. You are encouraged to wear your Carter's Crew shirts or red.
