Cary Wyman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 4, 2019.
Cary Douglas Wyman, aged 77, passed away on Monday March 4, 2019. He was born on Sunday August 24, 1941 to Clair Everet Wyman and Harriette Lovila Crosby-Wyman in Nashua, New Hampshire. He was primarily raised in Keene, New Hampshire, where he lived with his siblings David Keith Wyman and Martha Leslie Wyman. He attended Keene High School and graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1959. Cary went to Dartmouth College on a General Electric scholarship and graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics in 3 years (1962). Cary met his first wife Ann Dauksza at Keene State College. They were married in February of 1964 and Ann's daughter, Zina, was soon after officially adopted by Cary. Afterwards, Cary held many different jobs, he traveled all over the world, and he participated in many political events. In 1972 Cary was offered a position leading a programming team at Digital in Reading, England, and he and his family Ann (wife), Zina and Matthew (children) lived there from September 1972 to June 1975. They moved back to Arlington in 1975 and soon after moved to California in 1979. Always an advocate, he marched, with his wife and young daughter Zina with Martin Luther King on April 22, 1965 in Boston. In May 1971 he was arrested at a Vietnam War protest in Lexington, Massachusetts, along with Senator John Kerry. He supported George McGovern for President, going door to door and leaving pamphlets encouraging the vote. He was also a very early supporter of Jimmy Carter. Soon after moving to California, he and his first wife, Ann, separated in 1980. He later met his current wife, Linda Moncrief and they married in 1981. He worked on many programming projects in the Silicon Valley area. He wrote the kernel for local area network NET-ONE at Ungermann-Bass and also created early Macintosh programs MindWrite, Delta Graph, and Taste. He moved to Morgan Hill, California to start his family with Linda Moncrief in 1984. They lived in Morgan Hill from 1984-2003, whereupon they moved to Austin, Texas with their children Luke, Sarah, and Rachel. Cary lived in Austin, Texas for 16 years, where he was able to enjoy his retirement while fiddling with ChartOverlay at his company Omnium Software. Cary loved his cats (Mica and Loki) whom he lovingly called "His boys," programming, debating over politics, study of maps, and his family. He had a vast collection of literature from all different genres and eras and enjoyed sharing his love for literature with his family. Cary Wyman was very much loved by his family. He was never afraid to speak his mind, and always loved a good debate about politics. He was eager to share his knowledge with his children and always took an interest in their passions. He never missed an event and was always so proud of his children's accomplishments. As stated by Luke Wyman, "We all had different interests from dad, but that didn't matter. He loved hearing about what his kids were passionate about, even if he didn't understand it." Cary is survived by his wife, Linda Susan Moncrief; first wife, Ann Wyman; sons, Matthew Kyril Wyman (girlfriend Wendy Orbas Weitzman), Luke Wyman; daughters, Zina Wyman, Sarah Wyman (boyfriend Clarence Odis-Douglas Riley IV), Rachel Wyman Gober (husband Aaron William Gober); grandson, Tyler Declan Wyman. Siblings, David Keith Wyman (wife Nancy Blythe Wyman), Martha Wyman Henry (husband Jonathan Henry) and their children. Visitation 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress.

Cary and I had many engaging conversations about politics and our kids, two of our favorite topics. I will miss those conversations...and Cary himself.
