Casi Smythe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2017.
Casi Allison Smythe, 32, passed away peacefully at West Georgia Hospice after a two month stay at UAB fighting a rare encephalitis. She continued to shine for Jesus through it all.

Casi was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on December 20, 1984, and moved to LaGrange with her family in 1990. She graduated from LaGrange High School in 2003.

Casi will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God and spent her entire life finding the positive in everyone and every situation. She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square and was active in the Tom Farr Sunday School Class, Adult Choir, and volunteered each day in the Childrens' Ministry or Main Office of the church. She also was very diligent in her daily bible study and attended Explorers Bible Study each Tuesday. Casi loved to read her Bible, memorize scripture, and spend time with others. She always had a twinkle in her eyes, a smile on her face, and she loved to laugh. She loved to listen to contemporary Christian music all the time and sang solos at church when she was younger. She internalized each song and it was beautiful to watch her sing in the Adult Choir.

Casi was preceded in death by her biological mother, Sarah Cason Smythe, who passed away when Casi was 10 months old. Both sets of her biological grandparents are also in heaven, now rejoicing with Casi.

Casi is survived by her parents Bob and Beth Smythe, her brother Drew and sister-in-law Katie, and niece Charlee. Casi was a spectacular aunt to Charlee, always wanting to play with or read to her.

Other surviving relatives include her grandparents Jack and Wilma Ellis and J. Y. and Margaret Davis, Beth's parents, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Casi's Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00pm Saturday, January 28, 2017 at First Baptist Church on the Square, followed by interment at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse for Operation Christmas Child, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or www.samaritanspurse.org in memory of Casi.

We remember Casi as a happy little girl running around spreading happiness everywhere. Bob, Beth, Casi and Drew were loved members of our church family at Pittsford Baptist Church in NY many years ago. What a small world this is. Reading about how active Casi has been at First Baptist in LaGrange brings back happy memories of my (Sandra) childhood in LaGrange where I was baptized at First Baptist and attended there during my elementary school years. What a happy city for Casi to have bloomed in! Our hearts break for Bob, Beth & Drew but rejoice that Casi is with her Lord Jesus.

Our connection with Casi was in the choir during the five years we lived in LaGrange, where she not only served faithfully, but also always had a positive, cheerful attitude. She shared prayer requests on every opportunity. Every Wednesday and Sunday we were uplifted by being present with her. May God bless her family as they adjust to life without Casi. She will be missed not only by them, but also by all who knew her.

I will always think of Casi each Sunday as I look up at the choir. So thankful to have been able to worship with her all these years. She loved her Church and we love her still. When we loose a young loved one, a child, a sister, an aunt, a friend- our hears are full of so many emotions. Beth and Bob made sure Casi grew up knowing the light of Christ's love for her. And Casi loved Jesus back. It was evident to us all. Only the peace that passes all understanding found in Christ Jesus can comfort a grieving Mother and Father. Every time I look up into the choir each Sunday from now on, I will be praying for the Smythe family.

Although Casi is dancing in heaven - and what a blessing to be in the presence of our Lord, my heart aches for you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
