Catalino Barril, 82, died peacefully surrounded by his family, June 23, 2013, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Catalino B. Barril Sr. and Martha S. Kelly Barril in Juneau, Alaska, April 25, 1931, the fourth of eleven children. He attended the BIA Indian Schools in Douglas and Juneau prior to attending Technical School in Seattle, WA, for jet engine repair. He served in the Air Force for four years stationed in Germany.

Catalino was married to Sophie Gomez Isturis at the Cathedral of the Nativity in Juneau, June 6, 1954. They were blessed with four children, Anthony, Catalino, Dennis and Anilisa. Catalino's employment opportunities were many and varied including cutting and selling halibut cheeks to Juneau restaurants as a youngster, he was a typesetter for the Juneau Independent Newspaper, and a cab driver and at the local post office. In Campbell, California he worked for Moore Business Forms and then operated his own television repair business. Also he coached Little League and Pony League and took the Pony League to the California State Championships with all three sons.
After returning to Juneau in 1972, he worked for a local television repair company, the Family Service Center, and in the development of the State of Alaska Telecommunications Network. He traveled to many of the small villages in the State to link them to the statewide Network. He served two terms for the State Ombudsman's Office in Juneau, and then moved to Anchorage to work for the Cook Inlet Regional Native Corporation, and later as a Travel Agent. He was also employed by the Goldbelt Corporation as a Naturalist and interpreter in Southeast Alaska. After retiring, Catalino found his dream job with the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA, as a Flight Simulator Operator. Catalino was elected to the first Goldbelt Corporation then served for almost two decades. He never lost his love of Technology, nice cars, jets, travelling, and was a loyal fan of the Sea Hawks and Mariners.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Matthew and Pedro and his sister Virginia. He is survived by his sons Anthony Robert John, Catalino David (Deborah) and Dennis George (Stacy), his daughter Anilisa Renee Kimlinger (Thomas), his brothers George (Ursula) of Seattle, WA, Florentino (Davina) of Olympia, WA Antonio (Carol) of Juneau, AK, Lorenzo (Ursula) of Erwin, NC, Alponso (Annette) of Juneau, AK and his sister Leonida Shaginaw of Seattle, WA, as well as numerous grand children, great grand children, and great great grand children.

There will be a private Catholic mass for family. The family invites friends and colleagues to a Celebration of life at the Tlingit & Haida Hall on Sunday, June 30, 2013, 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 419 Sixth Street, Juneau, AK 99801
