Catherine Boteler Boyle Catherine Gardner Boteler Boyle, 72, of Jackson, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 3, 2025, at her home.
A daughter of Jeannette Gardner Walker and the late Jerald R. Boteler, Sr., and stepdaughter of the late Fisk Halsted Walker, Cathy was born in Laurel on August 1, 1953, graduating from R. H. Watkins High School in 1971. She attended the University of Mississippi, where she was an active member of the Alpha Psi chapter of Delta Gamma. After college, she moved to
Jackson, Mississippi, and continued her involvement by staying active in her regional alumnae chapter.
Cathy worked for several companies in Jackson, including Yates Construction, from which she retired in 2023.
An avid traveler and history buff, Cathy first began exploring Europe in college during a semester in France. She continued throughout her adult life, taking trips in the U.S. and abroad with family and friends, notably two pilgrimages with her church: one to Iona, Scotland, and another, last summer, to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Cathy joined St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson and immersed herself in many aspects of service and fellowship. She was a beloved member of the choir for over 40 years, as well as a participant in the Wednesday Bible Study, The Holy Smokers, preparing food for church gatherings, and the altar guild. A lover of games and fun, she joined a group for Mexican Dominoes and dinner on Monday nights and had lunch most Sundays with church friends. Recently, she joined a new book club, which enhanced her lifelong interest in reading. This group has renamed itself "Cathy's Club" in memory of its dear friend.
Possessing a natural gift for friendship, Cathy maintained close connections with friends from childhood, high school, and college throughout her life, as well as with others she met through work, volunteering, church activities, and her small neighborhood in Northeast Jackson. She gathered with her many Laurel and college friends whenever possible, attending reunions, Jagged Edj concerts, and productions at New Stage, as well as taking trips to the beach, which she loved. Earlier this year, she began lessons and joined a Mahjong group, adding yet another layer of friends to her life.
Cathy's loss is profoundly felt by her adoring family. She was devoted to her son, Michael Joseph Boyle, III, and her grandson, Cian Cheng Boyle; together, they were the light of her life. She is also survived by her mother, siblings Margaret Boteler, Jeanne Foley, Randy Boteler, Stephanie Geren, Carole Jones, and Tom Walker; her dear friend Phyllis Mitchell; two nephews, three nieces, one great-nephew, assorted cousins, and an eclectic group of loving friends.
A Requiem Eucharist celebrating Cathy's life will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral, where she will be interred. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Cathy's name to the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation (
