Catherine Clayton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9, 2022.
On November 3rd, Catherine Courtney Clayton (Kay) (aged 91) passed away peacefully at Buckingham Heights Memory Care facility in Glastonbury, CT. She lived there for almost four years. Kay was born April 30, 1931 to her parents George and Naomi in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. Following graduation from Pierre S. Dupont High School in 1949, she attended Middlebury College in Vermont. Kay is survived by her sons Chris, Peter, Matthew, and Court and five grandchildren: Carl, Laura, Ben, Emily, and Libby. Kay moved over a dozen times with her husband, John David Clayton (Dave) who was a project manager for Exxon. Together for almost 50 years, they raised their family in Madison and Morristown, NJ and in Europe including London, Edinburgh, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Sweden. While in London, she took art courses and painted watercolors and oils. Kay and Dave loved spending summers at their home in East Orleans on Cape Cod. She was an avid gardener both at the Cape and in New Jersey. She said gardening was like painting with flowers. In addition to painting, Kay was an enthusiastic bridge player and life-long swimmer. As a high school student, she won the Delaware State freestyle championship. In her later years, even with dementia, she made people feel good with her warm smile and cheerful disposition. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
