I served on the Mercy Hospital Board in Iowa City, Iowa, at the same time as Sister Catherine Gallagher. After the meetings, Sister would ride with me to the Cedar Rapids Airport to travel back to Chicago. I have fond memories of our conversations as we traveled. There was hardly ever a lull, and I learned a lot from this wonderful mentor of Mercy! My sympathy to all her Mercy friends.

I first met Sr. Catherine when I moved to Chicago in July of 2001. She was always an interesting conversationalist and interested in my work in Vocations. I will keep her family in my prayers. I know that she is up there working for us again!

How I wish I had known of Sister's death earlier. I definitely would have gone to the visitation. Sister was a dear friend to our family, especially our Aunt Sister Florentine Franklin. We shared many a happy visit when she and Sister Florentine were at Provena/Mercy Manor and Convent. Our memories go back to wonderful times at Siena (Class of '63) where Sister was principal during the first few years I was there. Her laugh was her gift to all! I'm sure Sister, my aunt and Sister Theophane are having one hoot of a time in heaven. God bless her family.

I'm sending my prayers and condolences to the Sisters of Mercy in Chicago. I had the privilege of knowing Sister Catherine in her later years. She was always supportive of Sister formation and worked closely with our Sister M. Assumpta Murray (Burlingame). I would enjoy hearing stories of her work in prison ministry as she focused on educating those incarcerated. Sister was a tremendous leader and will be missed greatly.

My first memory on hearing of Catherine's death was a General Administrative Conference setting (Sisters of Mercy of the Union) and a wonderful, rich laugh from Inviolata. I don't remember the reason for the laugh, but I do remember her delight in all things human and her energizing sense of humor. She was a leader and a mentor for persons like myself - new to leadership and new to national agendas. I celebrate her life, her contributions, her deep commitment to the Sisters of Mercy.

Catherine's compassionate understanding touched me personally during a retreat in Maryland in the '80's. This experience along with her visionary leadership for us as Sisters of Mercy is a heart warming memory I've carried with me. I'm sure God is welcoming her and enjoying her presence.

As a Mercy Associate now for over 20 years, I have known Catherine Gallagher most of that time. She was always welcoming and inviting. Mary and I send our condolences to the family from southeastern Illinois. It was a joy to be in her presence.

My condolences to the family of Sister Catherine and to the Mercy family to which she belonged for so many years. Those of us who knew her at Siena High School will remember her gentleness and prayerful attitude. We will keep her in our prayers. It may be that Sister Catherine was the last of our dear sisters who taught the class of 1956. Thank you to the Mercy family of nuns, and Sister Catherine.
