Cathy agreed to meet with me as I prepared my application to Brown as a non-traditional undergraduate student in Contemplative Studies. Her pioneering work inspired me at a time when academia had long since passed me by, and her continued enthusiasm and encouragement gave me hope and confidence that I could be successful if I followed my heart, just as she did. It is with immense gratitude to her that I continue study in this emerging field which she laid the foundation for. Her curious, compassionate, and courageous spirit lives on at Brown, and in all the students she touched.

Cathy and I were editors on the Evanstonian together at ETHS and later reconnected on Facebook. What a brilliant and accomplished woman. She has passed, but her work will help so many others. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Cathy.

An amazing, talented woman driven and inspired by so many challenges. A cousin whom we never met is a true inspiration and a tribute to a life well lived, as were her parents Louise and Howard. Our sincerest condolences to Sarah and Jon, their families and all of Catherine's friends and colleagues.

What a remarkable life Catherine led in spite of devastating ill-health. My deepest condolences to her family and especially to her husband, Jon, his brother Michael, his parents, David and Carol Kranes. I know how much they valued Catherine in their family and in their lives. She made an enormous contribution to all of us as she courageously became an active part of medical research to find the cure for this dreaded disease.

Cathy was a compassionate and courageous scientist, a great mentor, friend, and colleague. She will certainly be missed by her community of friends and scholars who have felt her discerning and gentle spirit. Her light will continue to inspire us all!
