Catherine M. Shaffer

HERNDON - Catherine M. Shaffer, 85, of 162 Shaffer Hill Lane, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Sunbury Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Care Unit, where she had been a patient since November 2007.
She was born Dec. 4, 1923, in Dalmatia, a daughter of the late Jordon and Clara (Thomas) Yerger. On Oct. 26, 1942, she married Roy J. Shaffer, who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1992.
She was educated in Jordan Township schools.
Catherine was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening and jigsaw puzzles.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban Road, Herndon.
Surviving are three children and their spouses, Betty and Earle Wolfgang of Dalmatia, Raymond and Beverly Shaffer of Hershey and Marlin and Ruby Shaffer of Herndon; six grandchildren and their spouses, Sandra and Gary Hughes, Sharon Heim, Sue Schaffner, Earle Wolfgang Jr. and Valerie, Teresa and Roger Webster, and Lisa Shaffer; seven great-grandchildren, Terry and Fallon Scott, Dennis Schaffner, Matthew Heim, Ashley Harris, Andrew Wolfgang and Amanda Webster; one sister, Pauline Williard of Herndon; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Yerger, and five brothers, Guy, Lee, Mark, Homer and Harry Yerger.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban, where the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Paul's UCC Memorial Fund, 1473 Urban Road, Herndon, PA 17830.
