Catherine Thacker Obituary

ST. PAUL – Catherine Maxwell Thacker, 81, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon.
She was born on March 15, 1926, in Tazewell County, Va., daughter of the late Harry and Willetta Beavers Maxwell. She graduated from Tazewell High School and attended Radford College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Paul. As a young woman, she worked as a secretary. In later years, she was a teacher's aide at both St. Paul schools, where she also volunteered in the Band Boosters and PTA. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James T. Thacker; one daughter, Kathy Thacker Stewart and partner Ed Salyers of St. Paul; one granddaughter, Ellen Stewart and partner Don Maloney of Hilton Head, S.C.; one sister, Selma Allison of Portsmouth, Va.; one niece, Pat Allison Wood of Portsmouth; several great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life service for Catherine Maxwell Thacker will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, in First Baptist Church, St. Paul, with the Rev. Mike Moore and the Rev. Lee Kidd officiating. Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007, in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum, Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, in First Baptist Church, St. Paul.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 546, St. Paul, VA 24283. Online condolences may be sent to the Thacker family through our Web site at www.castlewoodfuneralhome.com.
