Barnegat - Cathleen Mary (nee Cummings) McCoy of Barnegat, NJ died peacefully on March 1, 2024 after a short illness surrounded by her beloved family. She was 78.

Cathleen (Cathy) was born on Staten Island on October 6, 1945, to Joseph J. and Ruth E. Cummings. She attended St. Joseph Hill Academy High School, graduating in 1963. She worked for African Metals Corporation in Manhattan prior to her marriage to James J. McCoy, Jr. in 1970 and before starting a family in South Bound Brook in 1971. In 1973, they moved to Barnegat where she held several jobs over the years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Conway Auto Parts in Manahawkin for over 30 years, a retail clerk at Reynolds Garden Shop in Manahawkin for almost 20 years, and most recently, as a retail clerk for Dollar Tree on Route 9 in Barnegat for almost 3 years.

Cathy is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two brothers, Gregory J. Cummings and Steven J. Cummings. She is survived by her daughters, Megan McCoy and husband Christopher Beardsley of Flemington, Katie McCoy and husband Martin O'Connor of Barnegat, and Laura McCoy and partner David DiCaro of Barnegat; her grandchildren Reece Shelley-O'Connor, Aidan and Bridget Beardsley, Ryan and Kyle DiCaro; her brother Kevin Cummings of New Windsor, NY and sister Christine Vaiano of Staten Island; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Cathy's love for her family, friends, critters, and flowers held no bounds and her precious light and love was immediately felt by all those who were lucky enough to have crossed her path.

Visitation will be held at Barnegat Funeral Home on Thursday, March 7th from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. A funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Mary's Parish in Barnegat on Friday, March 8th at 10am. A private burial will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in North Hanover Township.

In lieu of flowers and in regard for Cathy's love of all critters, the family requests gifts be made to Popcorn Park Animal Refuge in Lacey Township at ahs.givecloud.co/tribute.

I'm sure your girls and families are having tough holidays this year since March without their beloved Mother.
And I, as long time friend, am missing you too. Always on my mind and in my prayers. Hope you are at peace my friend. I know you're with the Angels, as you were an Angel here on earth. Missing our nightly chats. Love and God Bless You my dearly beloved friend. From Carol Kaye.

An Angel was brought home to God. The love Cathy gave was endless and her generosity was legendary. Where words fail us, songbirds will sing your name. Forever in our hearts and thoughts. Both our moms and dads are now united in heaven.

I will forever remember Mrs. C, as we called her, dancing in the kitchen and signing along to her oldies on the radio. She was always welcoming and warm. I spent many nights and days at her house as a kid and always will remember her fondly. She made me laugh and she had a great laugh. My deepest condolences to her family. She will be greatly missed!
Lots of love and many prayers,
Missy
