Cecilia Powell

POWELL, Cecilia nee Lawrence In Merrickville, Ontario on Thursday October 14th, 2010, at the age of 85, after a long decline while she suffered from Parkinson's disease. Cecilia was born on 25th June 1925 in Kuching, Sarawak where her father was on the staff of the "White Raja". She went to England eighteen months later where she was brought up. In 1950 she married Arthur Powell, a British army officer, and proved herself to be a wonderful companion, hostess, chef, gardener, herbalist, seamstress, and above all, a painter using a chinese style she learned while on Arthur's army posting in Hong Kong. When Arthur retired from the army in 1968, the family came to Canada for his new employment. She was the proud mother of Ann and David, who are the internationally known Puppetmongers Theatre of Toronto, and grandmother of Claire and Jesse. This year was her diamond wedding anniversary.
