Francis “Frankie” Domenic Moretti, 91, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 3, 2016, with his wife by his side.

Frankie was born in Duryea, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1924, son of the late Domenic Moretti and Eufemia “Faye” Merli Moretti Martini. He lost his father in 1939 after a coal mining accident. He graduated from Duryea High School in 1942. After graduating high school, Frankie relocated to Waterbury, Connecticut, to reside with his uncle and aunt, Charles and Laura Pescetelli. He was employed by Waterbury Clock from 1942 to 1950 when he was drafted by the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served twenty months in Frankfurt, Germany and four months stateside. He served as a Corporal with the 587th Engineer Field Maintenance Company. Upon his discharge from the Army in 1952, Frankie returned to work at U.S. Time, which then became Timex. He was employed for thirty-two years until his division was purchased by Bendix of Cheshire, which then became Honeywell. He retired from Honeywell in 1999 as a gyro inspector.

After being together for more than fifty years, Frankie married the love of his life, Helen “Ella” Versickas Moretti, in 2011. They enjoyed traveling together and took regular vacations to California to visit with his mother. They also enjoyed travelling to Atlantic City, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods and Saratoga Race Track. In addition to attending shows and baseballs games together.

Frankie was a member of the VFW Post 201 of Waterbury. He was a proud American and loved his country. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends and family. He enjoyed horse racing, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Eagles.

In addition to his wife, Frankie is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren to cherish his memory. He will be missed by his beloved cat, Tiger. He was predeceased by six step-sisters.

Arrangements: Funeral Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to St. Patrick’s Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
