Chad Haefner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2025.
Chad Haefner, 58, of Le Sueur, Minnesota, passed away on September 1, 2025. He was born on January 24, 1967, in New Prague, Minnesota. Chad lived a life marked by hard work, deep family bonds, and a love for the outdoors.

Chad dedicated his career to Structures, a company specializing in building retaining walls along highways, at malls, and in mountainous regions across the United States. His role was both physically demanding and vital-he led crews through challenging terrain and complex projects with determination and leadership. His work took him far from home but never far from the values he held dear.

At the heart of Chad's life was his family. He was a devoted husband to Crystal and a proud father to Joanne Zwart, married to Jared Zwart, and Heather Lehman, married to Josh Lehman. His joy extended to his grandchildren-Able Zwart, Hadley Zwart, and Jack Lehman-who brought light into his life.

Chad is also remembered by his siblings: Cynthia Veldhuisen (married to Larry), Kristine Davis (née Haefner), Debra Haefner, Sylvia Svihel (married to Steven), Rebecca Gast (married to Craig), Steven Haefner (married to Belinda), Stuart Haefner; and stepbrothers Robert Stevermer and Greg Stevermer. Each shared in the memories of growing up together and remained connected throughout Chad's life.

He was preceded in death by his parents Simon and Joanne Haefner (née Nass), as well as sister Pamela Miron and brother Douglas Haefner.

Outside of work and family responsibilities, Chad found peace and excitement in nature. He loved fishing and hunting with family and friends-a passion that brought him countless stories and cherished moments. One of his most memorable adventures was a buffalo hunt during a job in the Utah mountains. The mounted buffalo head remains at his home as a lasting tribute to that experience, accompanied by photos that Crystal proudly displays.

Chad's legacy lives on through the strength of the family he built, the friendships he forged across the country through his work, and the memories shared around campfires after long days outdoors. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

The Celebration of life is set for September 20th at 2 pm at his home address.

I remember the first time I met Chad. I was new to the area, it was February of 2010 at the Red Door in Belle Plaine, karaoke night and boy could the man sing. He always had a kind word for everyone and smile that would light up a room. God bless his family in their moment of loss.

Chad was a one of kind!! Didn't know him growing up but glad I found the family again years later and came to love every single one of them. The love he had for his family was very evident each time I saw him. The 4th of July parties always epic and fun times. May you all find comfort in all the memories made and keep them close to your heart. I know I certainly will!! Fly high cousin!! May you rest in eternal peace! Until we meet again...love you!

I have no words for an amazing hero! Chad stood and fought cancer face to face! He has all the love and respect from everyone working on the mountain here in Utah!! The amazing WPR team. I was lucky enough to take him and his amazing wife on an Utah buffalo hunt! We laughed and had great conversation while on the hunt! I was blessed to drive his buffalo head to his house! I will miss his strength and courage! Love ya brother. J.T.
