Charlene T. Casey

Charlene Tuggle Casey, 89, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013, in Memphis, after declining health. She was born October 11, 1923, to William Richard Tuggle and Irene Cartwright Tuggle. Raised in Capleville, TN, Charlene was extremely proud of her hometown and her Tuggle family heritage. She was a graduate of Whitehaven High School and Moore Business School.
Charlene moved to San Antonio, TX, in her early twenties, seeking employment, and there met her beloved future husband, D. Gordon Casey. They married on March 28, 1948, and eventually returned to Memphis to raise their family. Widowed at a young age, Charlene worked resolutely to educate her three children and maintain a beautiful home for them, which she resided in for over fifty years.
Surviving Charlene are her children, Janice (Joseph) Stellute of Hampton, VA, Marilyn C. Osborn, and Richard (Lynne) Casey of Memphis, as well as seven grandchildren, Selena S. Glenn, Mario J. Stellute, Angela S. Ballard, Matthew G. Osborn, S. Wyatt Osborn, Lauren A. Casey, and R. Adam Casey, along with two precious great-grandchildren. Her dear sister, Eleanor T. Young, preceded her in death in 2010.
A charter member of Scenic Hills United Methodist Church, Charlene attended regularly to support the congregation in every way. She was also a member of Scenic Hills Garden Club and the Women's Society. She enjoyed dancing, loved to work in her beautiful yard, was an excellent seamstress, and an avid reader. In honor of her husband, she was a dedicated sponsor of several Veterans' organizations.
Visitation will be Monday, March 25 at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, E. Holmes Rd., Capleville, TN. Memorials may be made to Scenic Hills United Methodist Church, 2847 Pembroke Rd., Memphis, TN.
