Charlene Maille Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2025.
Essex - Charlene A. Maille, 67, passed away peacefully Thanksgiving evening, November 28, 2024, following a long illness with her beloved husband at her side, joining our Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven for all eternity. Charlene was born July 31, 1957, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of Charles Bouffard and Lillian (Lavergne) Bouffard. She is survived by her father, Charles Bouffard and wife Mary of Plymouth, CT, her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of over 48 years, George Maille Jr., of Essex Jct., her sister Susan Bouffard, her brother Alan Bouffard and wife Priscilla of Essex Jct., her daughter Caralynn and husband Anthony Della Ripa of South Windsor, CT, her sons, Christopher Maille of Essex Jct., Eric Maille of Milton, and Matthew Maille and his wife Laura Werner-Maille, of Essex Jct. In addition, she is survived by her two grandsons Joseph and Luke Della Ripa of South Windsor, CT, whom she loved dearly. Charlene also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, as well as several dear life-long friends, including Sue Mostowy, and Brenda Wells. She was predeceased by her mother, Lillian, in 1986, her brother, David Bouffard, in 2020, and her sister, Janet Bouffard, in 2021. Charlene graduated third in her class at Winooski High School in 1975 and married her high school sweetheart George in 1976. She went on to become a registered EEG technician and billing assistant for Neurological Associates of Vermont. After a long hiatus to raise her family, Charlene returned to work as a medical billing specialist for local medical and chiropractic offices, then for MBA Associates, and lastly UVM Medical Center prior to her forced retirement in 2011. Throughout her life she dedicated herself to her children, family, and her church. A 41-year resident of South Burlington, Charlene opted to stay home with her young family, spending significant time volunteering in South Burlington's Central Elementary School classrooms as Room Mother, field trip chaperone, member of the PTO, and playground committee. She supported all her children's extracurricular activities, including sports, Boy Scouts, and musical band endeavors. Charlene was notably a proud "Football Mom" during her sons' time on the South Burlington Dolphins and Rebels teams, and of her husband's officiating. She had fun spending many summers camping with her family at her favorite retreat in Island Pond, VT. Charlene was a passionate volunteer for the Catholic Church. She was part of a team that helped restore the interior of St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski, applying her artistic talents and acute attention to detail to paint restoration. Her largest contribution was the 15+ years she spent with the Religious Education program at St. John Vianney Church in South Burlington, where she taught grade level Catechism classes, prepared lessons, and assisted in the office. Charlene imparted her strong faith and inspiration to others, to include serving as a confirmation sponsor to one of her previous students, Laura Mansfield. Charlene was artistically inclined and multitalented in crafts of sewing, crochet, embroidery, and paper-crafting. Her favorite past-times were stamping, scrap booking, and card making. Her creations beautifully decorated her family home. Family and friends have dresses, blankets, baby booties, and many handmade cards to remember her by. Her carefully handmade cards were cherished by all recipients. Charlene was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grammy, aunt, and friend. Though challenged with her illness, she taught us the true meaning of strength, courage, faith, love, and trust in our Lord. Being together with family meant the most to her. As a former sweet, earth-bound angel, she now watches over and guides us from Heaven. She'll be always on our minds, and forever in our hearts. The family wishes to express their utmost appreciation to the staff at Green Mountain Nursing Home recognizing Sal, Karen, Kara, and Virginia for their care, and to the UVM Hospice team.
