One year plus later- Dec. 2018. So if you were here right now Charlie, I wish I might say this to you. This morning returning to and passing in front of your Tower Place in Buckhead, where I would come to see you so many times I stopped here for a moment to wonder about you. Its been many years Charlie. It was saddening to discover looking online of your passing. As a young man, a young designer starting out, in the mid-80's in Atlanta- Charlie, you shared and taught me so many life-lessons.You gave me the chance to grow and fail and learn. With you the experience always came first, then I would get the lesson. You inspired me- your sense of cultural integrity, your tenacity to win, for excellence. I've so many, many stories too numerous to recant here from you, but all a best reality. To say, THANK YOU Charlie is heartfelt, seems even minimal but I don't know what else to write. And even thought You'll never know it Charlie, I have tried to pass many of those wonderful life-lessons to so many young people over time. I think you'd like what I've able to do. May your soul rest in peace Charles Ackerman. Hank Richardson

I actually introduced Charles to Baltimore where he developed Equitable Bank Center (I worked at Equitable) and the then the C&P Baltimore HQ Building. He brought along a young employee, Mike Prentiss, whom he mentored. In a casual conversation after work one day, Charlie noted that a particular building had all the grace that one would have expected from Albert Speer. At the time, I didn't know who Albert Speer was. Since then I have read extensively about that period of history. I have also worked with and contributed to the USHMM where a Charles had sufficient impact for his name to be inscribed on a wall. I admired Charlie and enjoyed him as a friend and a businessman.

Charles Ackerman was and is a giant among men because of his kindness and sensitivity to the combined experience of all living things and the artifacts that helped us understand them better. He was and is a mensch and I for one have been better off for having known him in this life. RIP, Charlie.

Mr. Ackerman was a very dedicated member of the Clark Atlanta University Board of Directors. His leadership and devotion will continue to impact the lives of our CAU community members and far beyond those borders.

We all feel for the loss to the entire Ackerman family and friends. Charlie touched so many lives in a powerfully generous way and he will be sorely missed. He was always so thoughtful to our father and brother which causes us special pain with his passing. May the memory of all that he has done for so many give the family the strength to carry on with his legacy. God bless. Ramon and Jody Franco

What a life Mr. Ackerman led! I absolutely am reminded of the words of ancient King Solomon, where he admonishes, "And I saw that there is nothing better than for a man to find enjoyment in his work, because that is his reward; for who can enable him to see what will happen after he is gone?" It is our hope that those Mr. Ackerman leaves behind will continue to keep his memory alive. And please accept our deepest condolences regarding his passing. - the brennans
