Charles Edward Adams

Charles Edward Adams, beloved husband, father, grandfather, died on March 16, 2023 at his home in Glen Allen, Virginia. He was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on June 18, 1939 to Charles Ernest Adams and Mary (Ginga) Adams. Magnanimous yet self-effacing, Charles had a relentless intellectual curiosity, an abiding sense of humor and a genuine joy of serious conversation. Charles graduated from Boston Latin School and later Tufts University, where he earned degrees in political science and international affairs. He later left the international business world to become an educator, pursuing advanced degrees in French and Education at Rivier College and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, respectively. He spent 40 years in education, teaching Latin and French and serving many years as a high school principal. In retirement, Charles was devoted to the Knights of the Templar and Saint Joseph's Church in Richmond, where he also taught Latin. Charles' accomplishments, numerous as they were, can only begin to capture the deep qualities of kindness and decency that made him so beloved by all who knew him. His life was an inspiration to his family, friends and the wider communities that he served. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Claire (Ward) Adams; his children Leslie Adams, Geoffrey Adams and wife Julie Adams, Nathaniel Adams and wife Jennie Willson; grandchildren, Madison, Camille, Sadie, Leo and Mae; many Ginga and Adams cousins; and one beloved Aunt Dolores Ginga. He is predeceased by his parents, and grandchildren Lindsay and Simeon. A funeral celebrating Charles' life will be held at Saint Joseph's Church on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following to meet the family. He will be buried in the Adams' family lot in Southborough, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' name can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
