Charles Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 21 to Mar. 22, 2023.
Charles Larry Allen went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2023. He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on November 4, 1936, to Charles Younts Allen and Wilda Barks Allen. The family later moved to Albany, Texas, then to Abilene, Texas.

Charles graduated from Abilene High School in 1954. He attended Harden Simmons University, Texas A & M, and graduated from North Texas State University with a B.A. Degree in Industrial Arts in 1960. After college he entered the military and served in the Marine Corps and the Air Force in the United States.

Charles loved to tell stories of the many diverse jobs he held when he was young, including Chicago bus driver, forest ranger, police officer, flight instructor, and counselor at Interlochen Arts Camp, a place he treasured. He spent the majority of his career as a middle school and high school teacher of industrial arts, music, and math. In 1981 he married his wife, Carolyn, who survives him. They resided in Brighton, Michigan, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, for many years before moving to Alpharetta, Georgia, in 2022.

Throughout his life, Charles was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating and camping, particularly in the mountains. He loved music, musical plays, and playing the flute; a skill he passed on to his grand niece.

Charles is also survived by his brother, Robert Gene Allen of Turlock, California, three stepchildren, and two step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their children. Charles was a faithful member of Fellowship Bible Church of Ann Arbor and the Gideons International organization.

No services are planned. If you desire, a gift may be given in Charles' name to the Gideons International, the Alzheimer's Association, or Fellowship Bible Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
